The Faculty of Law, University of Turku invites applications for the position of a postdoctoral researcher focusing on artificial intelligence and law for a fixed term of 12–14 months, starting 1 September 2022 or as agreed.

The appointee’s duties include research in the relationship between law and artificial intelligence, preferably in relation to civil or criminal liability or regulatory strategies deployed to govern the development or use of artificial intelligence.

The research will be conducted under the auspices of the Academy of Finland funded project ETAIROS. The appointee will also contribute to AIGA, a Business Finland funded project.

The ETAIROS project is focusing on how artificial intelligence can be used ethically to govern social conduct. The AIGA project seeks to develop a template for governing and auditing AI development processes.

While the command of the Finnish language would be an asset, the appointee can participate and contribute to the work of the projects in English.

Eligibility

A successful candidate should:

  • have completed a doctoral degree in a relevant field such as law by the beginning of the post;
  • live in Finland during the post-doc period and actively participate to the research activities of UTU;
  • have a solid background and interest in themes related to artificial intelligence and law;
  • have the ability to conduct high quality research independently and as part of the project teams;
  • be proficient in English, knowledge of Finnish is an asset.

Salary

The salary is determined by the collective agreement system of Finnish universities. The pre-estimated salary will be €3,400–3,600 per month depending on the merits and experience of the appointee.

There will be a six-month trial period for the position.

Selection of the candidates will be based on the following criteria: motivation to work in the project; research background and experience; quality of the publication or manuscript submitted.
