Offer Description

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Turku is recruiting a Postdoctoral researcher to work in the field of discrete mathematics for one year starting on May 1st 2024 (or upon mutual agreement).

Postdoctoral researcher will work in the research project called “Codes for Information Retrieval and Sensor Networks “. The Academy of Finland funds the project. The current third part of the project focuses on discovering and applying various graph theoretical and combinatorial methods in the field of error correction where we receive multiple output words from channels of the transmitted codeword. The Postdoctoral researcher will participate in that research as well as work partially with metric dimensions and various types of dominating sets of graphs.

It is expected the Postdoctoral researcher to actively publish scientific research in the research group. The job also contains teaching and other duties appointed by the department.


Who we are looking for

According to the rules of the University of Turku , a person selected for the post of postdoctoral researcher is required to have a doctoral degree and the ability to do independent scientific work as well as having the teaching skills required for the position. The position requires an active working approach, mastery of the English language, diligence and cooperation ability. The most important selection criteria are the scientific merits of the candidate. Preference will be given to those candidates whose research interests lie in graph theory or coding theory. The candidate must have a strong publication record to show the ability to do international research of high level.

Salary and trial period

The salary will be based on levels 4-6 of the demands level chart for teaching and research staff in the salary system applied at Finnish universities, according to which the base salary for the position is 2775,28 – 3747,44 euros per month. In addition, a performance-based salary component of up to 50 % will be paid. The salary will in the beginning of the employment be approximately 3 400 –3 700 €/month.

The position includes a six (6) month trial period.
