The Electrical Engineering unit at the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences in the Tampere University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the field of outdoor and seamless satellite-based positioning.

Job description

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will participate in the research and fundraising activities related to wireless positioning in the team related to seamless wireless positioning at the Electrical Engineering Unit of Tampere University. Project activities may include both research-related tasks (e.g., algorithmic and software developments, deliverables and publication writing) as well organizational tasks (participation to fundraising activities, meetings and workshops and social-media-based dissemination of project results). 

Requirements

To be eligible to apply for the Postdoctoral Research Fellow position, you must have completed a PhD degree in a relevant area of engineering at the time of the being hired; the PhD degree should not be older than 4 years (early-stage postdoc). Ability to independently conduct scientific research and good knowledge of digital communications and Matlab programming skills are a must. Knowledge of GNSS, LEO-PNT, 5G/6G, and/or Python is beneficial.

If you have not completed your Msc or PhD in Finland, a recent and official English certificate (e.g., Toefl or IELTS) is also required. All accepted English certificates and their minimum requirements are available here  (Language skill requirements).

The initial contract is to be offered until end of April 2024, with a possibility of extension upon good results and successful fundraising efforts. Starting time is desired to be in August 2022, but it can be discussed. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.

The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee's personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System . According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of a Postdoctoral Research Fellow is placed on level 5-6 of the job requirements scale, depending on career stage. A typical starting salary for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow is 3500 EUR per month. The salary increases based on experience.

Maximum length: four (4) pages, in which you present your rationale for applying for the post, what is your motivation in pursuing a research career, what attracts you related to wireless positioning, at least three examples research questions of interest to you in the field of wireless positioning, one example of a methodological path you would like to follow in solving one of the research questions you mention, and why you are particularly suited for it. Please follow the required structure in the cover letter; research questions outside the area of satellite positioning will not be considered.

  • Transcripts of records for Bsc, MSc, and PhD programmes you have completed
  • English certificate (if you completed your degreed outside Finland)
