POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER

The postdoctoral researcher will be a part of one of the scientific teams of the Botany Unit. The assignment starts in September 2022 (date is negotiable) and continue for two years from the start date. There is an option for 1-2 years’ extension after the initial period.

The postdoctoral researcher to be employed is expected to work with projects addressing scientific questions in the fields of systematics, taxonomy, conservation biology or biogeography of plants and/or fungi and his/her work should be closely related to that carried out by at least one of the PIs of the Unit (to be indicated in the application).

We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated and can work both independently and in a team. A successful candidate should have a demonstrated track record in research and experience in modern research methods. Capacity to face intellectual challenges, and willingness to learn new skills and to explore new intellectual territories are qualities expected from a strong candidate to have. An appointee to the position of postdoctoral researcher shall hold a recent (0-4 years) doctoral degree. The working language will be Finnish or English.

The salary will be based on level five of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish Universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance (total gross salary will be approximately 3400–3700 EUR per month).

The museum’s duties are to amass, maintain and display its collections, and to conduct related research, particularly in the field of species-level biodiversity. The collections serve research, teaching, and public education in biology, geology, and biodiversity, and form part of the international network of natural history repositories. The Finnish Museum of Natural History, established in 1988, has four units: Botany, Zoology, Natural Sciences, and Biodiversity Informatics. The Botany Unit has a permanent staff of 35 (10 of them in research positions) and 10–30 temporary employees.
