Offer Description

LUT Business School is looking for a non-tenure track post-doctoral researcher or associate professor in economics. The position will complement the competences of our existing research group in economics. The person selected will work on research and education in collaboration with the business school staff and researchers of other disciplines. The research team at LUT Business School is led by Professor Heli Arminen.

We are looking for a motivated person with a can-do attitude who is a good fit for our sustainability-oriented research group in economics. Possible research interests could include fields such as environmental and energy economics. We welcome candidates representing various schools of economic thought, such as ecological or institutional economics. We appreciate strong analytical skills and knowledge of current econometric techniques. We value evidence of successful project work and international research collaboration. Documented evidence of teaching excellence and experience in the acquisition of competitive external funding (e.g., Business Finland, Academy of Finland, the EU) are considered an advantage. Furthermore, we are looking for candidates with strong skills in research communication and dissemination and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team. The candidate needs to be able to teach bachelor’s-level economics courses in Finnish .

The post-doctoral researcher (usually within eight years of receiving a doctoral degree) or non-tenure track associate professor (usually eight or more years after receiving a doctoral degree) is required to have a doctoral degree in economics or another field relevant to the position and the ability for independent scientific work. The ability to work with different industrial and societal stakeholders and a solid publication record in international academic journals are an advantage.

In addition, according to LUT University guidelines, an associate professor (non-tenure track) is required to provide proof of high-level research work and publications and of the ability to lead a research group and raise research funding.

What we offer

  • An opportunity to work in a team of academic experts and develop academic expertise in economics
  • An opportunity to make an impact on industry and society through research projects
  • A fixed-term contract of 2+2 years or 4 years (depending on the career level) in LUT’s non-tenure track system, which may  lead to a permanent position as an associate professor

Employment relationship and salary

The salary is based on the current collective agreement for Finnish universities. The annual salary range of post-doctoral researchers is approximately 48 390–56 400 euros (plus a holiday bonus), and that of non-tenure track associate professors is approximately 56 400–65 000 euros (plus a holiday bonus), depending on qualifications and experience.

The work will start with a six-month trial period on LUT’s Lappeenranta campus in May 2024 (negotiable).

Applications

The deadline for applications is 23 February 2024 at midnight (Finnish local time +2 h).

Please fill out the online application form and attach the following documents:

  • your CV and list of publications
  • a motivation letter
  • a copy of your academic degree certificate and transcript of records; if the original documents are not in English, Finnish or Swedish, each document must be accompanied by an official certified translation into English or Finnish
