Postdoctoral and/or PhD positions are available at the Institute of Biotechnology, University of Helsinki, in the laboratory of Dr. Nicolas Di-Poi. Our laboratory (http://www.biocenter.helsinki.fi/bi/di-poi/ ) is studying the evolution and development of craniofacial tissues in non-classical reptile model organisms displaying an exceptional array of morphologies and regenerative capacities. This is a new and exciting research field, with the goals to elucidate the developmental mechanisms of evolutionary changes but also to provide an evolutionary context to the key signaling pathways of tissue regeneration.
The research projects include complementary state-of-the-art methods, including cell biology, molecular embryology, high-throughput omics, geometric morphometrics and functional studies, and they offer an interdisciplinary environment for research training (see e.g., Nature Communication (in press), eLife 8:e47702 (2019), Nature Communication 9:376 (2018), Science Advances 2:e1600708 (2016)). The exact topic of research projects will be discussed in detail during interview.
The successful Doctoral and/or Postdoctoral candidates will have a genuine interest in multidisciplinary research and will hold an excellent Master Degree (or equivalent) and/or PhD in Biology with a specialization in Cell & Developmental Biology and/or Bioinformatics. In addition, the Postdoctoral candidate will have a proven record of excellence in the above-mentioned research areas, whereas the Doctoral candidate will have a strong potential for excellence in research. Previous experience with multi-omics data analysis and wet-lab work would be an asset for the Bioinformatics position.
The Institute of Biotechnology (BI) at the University of Helsinki is an independent research institute within HiLIFE Helsinki Institute of Life Science (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/helsinki-institute-of-life-science ) with a mission to increase knowledge in biotechnology and multidisciplinary bioscience and use this for the benefit of society. HiLIFE and BI offer state-of-the-art core facilities in microscopy, imaging, model organisms, omics technologies, genome editing, histotechnology and bioinformatics.
The salary is defined in accordance with the University salary system for teaching and research personnel. The positions could start as early as January 2020 or as agreed with the selected candidates. The positions are fixed-term of 2-4 years with possible extension. A trial period of six months will be applied.
