Patent Engineer, IPR Management

As patent engineer, you have a key role in evaluating and protecting VTTers’ inventions and patent prosecution in close co-operation with researchers, patent offices and business development. Main tasks include patentability evaluations of inventions, running the patent teams, managing invention protection process with inventors and external patent attorneys, and maintaining the patent portfolio together with IPR managers.  In this position, you have the opportunity to grow into a key member of the IPR team, which in turn enables VTT inventions to be turned into significant innovations.

Our team, IPR management, works for VTT’s IPR portfolio management and commercialization support. We have 11 members in total and we are looking for a patent engineer to complete the team. Your location can be any one of VTT’s sites: Espoo, Tampere, Oulu or Jyväskylä.

We operate as part of VTT’s Business Support function. As a team, we perform in close operation with VTT’s research units, business development and commercial operations. Our main tasks include managing VTT’s patent and IPR license portfolios as well as in general turning VTT’s research-based inventions from idea level to a complete technology transfer package for VTT’s customers. 

• Managing invention disclosure and patent prosecution processes of VTT inventions in areas of measurement technologies, optics and related process technologies.
• Running patent teams on your domain to ensure effective patenting decisions and carving out optimal protection scope in your area
• Supporting IP based value creation and business development for VTT

• You have some previous experience in invention evaluation and patent prosecution. We value your hunger towards learning by doing
• You possess both the ability and the motivation to learn more about measurement technologies, optics, micromechanical processes and related technologies
• Your communication skills in both Finnish and English are at a good level

Prior experience of managing patent portfolios and understanding on European and US patent prosecution is seen as beneficial.
