Open position for a Postdoctoral researcher or PhD student in Inflammation and Infections research group  

The laboratory of Karita Haapasalo at the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Bacteriology and Immunology is looking for a postdoctoral researcher or PhD student. 

The research. Our research have four themes: 1. To understand the role of microbial molecules in modulating the innate immune system. 2. To elucidate the role of complement activation and regulation in neuroinflammation. 3. To study pneumococcal virulence factors and their role in triggering inflammation in atherosclerosis. 4. To seek for Group B streptococcal virulence factors that are responsible for maternal colonization and neonatal infections. The projects are funded by the Academy of Finland and The Finnish Society of Sciences and Letters.

Position requirements. We seek for a person with commitment to research, willingness to explore and interest in both molecular-based research and biomedicine to join one of our projects. The project involves performing and designing experiments, data-analysis, writing and presenting data in English and supervision of students. The applicants should have a strong background of at least one of the major skills; biochemistry, immunology, microbiology or cell biology. The candidate should be able to work both independently and as a part of a team.  

Starting date and salary. The appointment will start in the beginning of 2023 and funded for 1 year with the possibility of continuation. A trial period of 6 months will be applied. The monthly salary will be determined according to the salary system at the employment unit.
