Offer Description

Aalto University is where science and art meet technology and business. We shape a sustainable future by making research breakthroughs in and across our disciplines, sparking the game changers of tomorrow and creating novel solutions to major global challenges. Our community is made up of more than 12,000 students, 400 professors and over 4,000 other faculty and staff working on our dynamic campus in Espoo, Greater Helsinki, Finland. Diversity is part of who we are, and we actively work to ensure our community’s diversity and inclusiveness. This is why we warmly encourage qualified candidates from all backgrounds to join our community.

Are you interested in transforming an important scientific result into a product? Are you interested in being part of a high-tech start-up company?

Aalto University is now looking for a M.Sc. thesis and/or project worker in mechatronics for intelligent instruments to join a team of research experts of the Research to Business project WoundSprayIQ in the field of medical devices. The WoundSprayIQ project focuses on shortening hospitalization times and improving treatment results for complicated, difficult-to-heal wounds, including burns and chronic wounds. Traditional treatment of these wounds is expensive and exerts a long-term burden both on the individual patient and healthcare. The WoundSprayIQ project will revolutionize the treatment with an innovative hand-held device allowing an accurate, adaptive, and personalized application procedure, which will potentially greatly impact the global wound care market worth billions of euros.

The position is  a joint position between the Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation at Aalto University and the Department of Pharmacology at  University of Helsinki.

The position can be started as a M.Sc. thesis, and continue as a Project Worker, or vice versa. Alternatively, it can be initiated directly as a Project Worker role. The position is available from the 1st of October 2023 and can last for the duration of the project (18 months). Furthermore, there exists the potential for continued employment within a prospective start-up company that may emerge following the completion of the project.
