The Department’s research groups address significant research challenges in their areas of expertise, such as data analytics, AI, and security and privacy. The Department has extensive international collaboration with companies and universities.

The MOOC Center is seeking a Lead Developer

Since 2013, the Department of Computer Science´s education programmes in computer science and data science have organized MOOCs (massive open online courses) that are open to all. The most popular series of MOOCs, the Elements of AI, created in collaboration with Reaktor and launched in 2018, has already over 840 000 students signed up from all over the world, and it has been rated the world's best English-language MOOC in computer science and AI (Class Central: https://www.classcentral.com/subject/cs?sort=rating-up ). The first part of the series has been made freely available in all official EU languages by the support of the Finnish government and the European Commission. The Lead Developer's tasks include developing, releasing, and maintaining the new version of the software platform behind the Elements of AI and other courses. The MOOC Center’s ambitious goal is no more and no less than to create world’s best-functioning online courses.

The position is full-time and fixed-term for two years or a shorter period according to agreement. The position will be filled as soon as possible.

Requirements

You could be an excellent candidate for the positions if you have at least two years of experience in working with modern application architectures and developing digital solutions in agile organizations.

  • The work will involve the following software technologies: Gatsby / NextJS / ReactJS, CSS-in-JS, GraphQL, i18n, Redux, Typescript, NodeJS, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, Jest, Kubernetes / Kafka. A successul candidate will likely have experience with most of them.
  • Experience of Node.JS / Javascript -based development projects is a must.

We hope you have excellent programming skills and customer-driven attitude towards developing services. A university degree in a relevant field is considered an advantage. Success in the position requires fluency in English.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range for the position is 3800-4100 €/month depending on the experience and qualifications of the applicant.
