The Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) is an international research institute focusing on human genomics and personalised medicine at the Helsinki Institute of Life Science (HiLIFE) of the University of Helsinki FIMM integrates molecular medicine research, technology centre and biobanking infrastructures under one roof, promoting translational research in grand challenge projects, specifically, the impact of genome information from the Finnish population in personalised health and medicine, individualised cancer medicine, and digital molecular medicine. Shared Laboratory coordinator in Genotyping and Single-Cell Operations
Description: 
FIMM Technology Centre (TC) develops methods and offers services in the areas of genomics (genotyping, sequencing and single cell sequencing) high throughput biomedicine, metabolomics, imaging, bioinformatics and IT services using state-of-the-art technologies. The infrastructure platforms in FIMM TC support research at University of Helsinki and functions as a national and international infrastructure platform for academic researchers.
Genotyping and Single-Cell Analytics (SCA) Units of the FIMM TC are service laboratories providing tailored genotyping, single cell sequencing and spatial transcriptomics services for the scientific community. Our teams consist of 10 multidisciplinary experts working together with other core units within FIMM Technology Centre. 


We currently have an opening for a laboratory coordinator to support day-to-day operations and assay development within these two units. The work requires excellent attention to details and ability and willingness for constant learning in a rapidly developing field of life sciences. Working experience in the field of genomics is considered an asset.

The primary activities of the position include, but are not limited to:
•    Daily sample preparation workflows from single cells to generation of libraries and genomic data
•    Daily sample preparation workflows for genotyping arrays
•    Scientific laboratory support for projects
•    Communication with researchers (service users)
•    Maintenance of laboratory and equipment
•    Method and protocol development


The tasks include streamlining of internal processes such as ordering, managing inventories, experimental work and data management. The laboratory coordinator will work independently as well as closely in collaboration with researchers and staff in FIMM Technology Centre.


Qualification and experience: 
Candidates should have master’s degree or equivalent in biotechnology, biology, biochemistry, biomedical laboratory science, engineering, or a related discipline including proven experience with at least cell culture, cellular techniques and assay development. In addition previous experience on NGS, DNA/RNA extraction and quality control will be valued. The successful candidate is expected to have excellent problem solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills, and is able to work systematically. In addition, the candidate should be fluent in English, have good interpersonal and communication skills, a service-minded attitude, and be able to work independently as well as within a team.


Salary & contract: 
The salary will commensurate with qualifications based on the university salary system. A contract will be offered initially until the end of 2024 with a possibility for extension.
