Offer Description

The LUT School of Engineering Sciences is looking for a master’s graduate or thesis student for a junior researcher or junior research assistant position for research projects in industrial management.

The final job title will depend on the candidate’s qualifications.

The main aim of the projects is to facilitate the digital transformation of industrial processes. The projects are carried out in close collaboration with several national and international companies. The projects support the digital transformation of industrial organisations – especially SMEs – and contribute to our understanding of the role of digital technologies such as AI and digital twins as part of the transformation. The project research should focus on topics such as performance management in digital transformation, performance management in sustainable business, or the role of AI in performance management. The research focuses on understanding the interplay between performance management and the digital business environment, but applicants can propose viewpoints and express areas of interest related to the research topic.

We expect you to

  • start your doctoral studies if you are a graduate (preferred option) or start your master’s thesis with ambitions to continue as a doctoral student (secondary option);
  • have completed your studies in industrial engineering, business, or another relevant field;
  • know about the digital transformation (specific knowledge of AI, and related technologies are an advantage);
  • have basic knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods;
  • work independently under the guidance provided and be an active team player;
  • be results- and research-oriented.

We additionally value

  • excellent written and spoken English;
  • the ability to communicate in Finnish.

1. Junior researcher

A junior researcher should have an MSc degree in a relevant field, the ability to complete the doctoral studies in the target time (four years) and a preliminary research plan. An employment contract can be concluded only if the candidate obtains the right to pursue doctoral studies at LUT University. The objective is to complete the doctoral degree within the target time. The position will be available initially for one year and can be extended by three years, provided that LUT deems the studies and research to have progressed satisfactorily.

The employment relationship is fixed-term with a six-month trial period. The salary is based on the current collective agreement for Finnish universities. The typical gross annual starting salary for a junior researcher is approximately EUR 32 500 (plus a holiday bonus in accordance with the collective agreement).

2. Junior research assistant

Candidates at the end of their MSc studies can be considered for the position of junior research assistant for writing their MSc thesis. The six-month employment relationship is fixed-term and starts with a three-month trial period. Ideally, the junior research assistant would go on to complete doctoral studies.

The duties and the salary of the junior research assistant are based on the candidate’s ECTS credits at the time of making the work contract (EUR 2 145.30–2 469.12 per month). After finishing the MSc thesis, the candidate is presumed to be interested in doctoral studies.

Location

The work takes place on LUT’s Lahti campus and will start in May 2024 (negotiable).

How to apply

The deadline for applications is 11 April 2024 at midnight, Finnish local time (UTC +3h).

Please send your application through the university's online application system with the following attachments:
