Offer Description

The Kouvola research group of the LUT School of the Engineering Science is seeking a junior researcher (doctoral student) in innovation ecosystem.

We are looking for a candidate who is interested in a high-level research career in fields such as logistics and innovation management, supply chain management, research methods, sustainability and digitalisation.

You will contribute to high quality research and teaching in logistics and innovation management. In our team, you will benefit from collaboration with international networks and leading researchers in related fields, the university's extensive research support services, and excellent contacts with private and public sector organisations and managers. Join our research community and take advantage of the opportunities that await you at the heart of learning and innovation.

You will mainly work on the KIITO project (Innovations, Education, and Employment for the Kymenlaakso region). The main objective of the project is to develop the functionality of the regional innovation ecosystem by increasing regional innovation activity and improving the employment of people in the region. You will also contribute to the teaching and development of our Master’s Programme in Innovation and Logistics (INLOG).

Your research topics could include:

  • innovation culture as a factor for regional success;
  • an organisation's capacity and capabilities for organisational change;
  • regional network expertise and the extent of innovation cooperation as part of the region's ability to succeed.

We expect:

  • a master's degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in industrial engineering, business studies, or another appropriate field;
  • enthusiasm for working in a team and the ability to work independently;
  • skills for teaching and interacting with students;
  • the ability to complete the doctoral degree within the normative duration of the studies;
  • experience in research and a desire to develop your scientific research skills;
  • fluency in English; fluency in Finnish is considered an advantage.

Terms of employment

An employment contract can only be concluded if the applicant obtains the right to pursue doctoral studies at LUT University. The goal is to complete the doctorate within four years. The work starts with a one-year term including a six-month trial period, and it can be extended by three years provided that the studies have progressed satisfactorily in the first year.

Employment relationship and pay

The work will start in the spring of 2024 or as agreed. The position will be located in LUT University's regional unit in Kouvola.

The salary is based on the current collective agreement for Finnish universities. The typical gross annual starting salary for a junior researcher is approximately 32 500 euros.

In addition to a competitive salary, the wide range of benefits include a holiday bonus, generous annual leave, a research incentive scheme with personal rewards for high-quality publications, flexible working hours, occupational health care, a collegial working environment, and continued support for your learning and development.
