The Finland Fellowship helps the talented students to start their doctoral research in Finland and provides support for the early stages of doctoral training. The Fellowship covers salary for the first year of research work in Oulu, Finland. The doctoral researcher position is located in the Technology and Natural Sciences Doctoral Programme (TNS-DP) of University of Oulu Graduate School (UniOGS ). TNS-DP provides high-quality doctoral training in the fields of Architecture, Biology, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Geography, Geosciences and Mining Engineering and Mineral Processing, Industrial Engineering and Management, Mathematical Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Physics and Astronomy, and Process and Environmental Engineering.
Conditions for receiving the Finland Fellowship
If you are a citizen of non-EU/EEA country, you may apply for a Finland Fellowship funding. If you have a dual citizenship, both of them must be non-EU/EEA.The Finland Fellowships are available for non-EU/EEA individuals who have submitted their doctoral study right application to the University of Oulu Graduate School (UniOGS) during the year 2022.

Fellowship amount and key terms
The Finland Fellowship consists of a salary paid for a fixed term of one year and a relocation cost.
The salary of selected doctoral researchers will be set on level 2 of the national salary scale for the teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a supplementary remuneration is given for personal achievement and performance (max. 50 %). In practice, the salary is roughly 2200 – 2700 € per month for an early-stage researcher, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and progress of the doctoral thesis.
In addition, a relocation cost of 2 000€ is paid to the Fellowship recipient’s Finnish bank account after arrival in Finland.
Both the salary and the relocation cost are subject to taxation.
The Finland Fellowship can start at its earliest in January 2023 and at the latest in April 2023.

- In your letter, please describe how the Fellowship can help you in boosting your innovativeness, progressing your high-quality research work and building your professional networks in your research field in the Oulu region.

Evaluation criteria
Applications for the Finland Fellowship are evaluated by the doctoral programme committees of University of Oulu Graduate School. The criteria that will be applied for the evaluation of all applications are:
- Eligible to apply for the study right at the University of Oulu Graduate School
- Application of doctoral study right in 2022
- Academic performance and motivation of the applicant
- Scientific quality of the research
- Feasibility and importance of the research
- Motivation to contribute to Research, Development, and Innovation in the Oulu region and in Finland
