Doctoral Researcher in wooden building construction

Your role and goals

We are searching for a full-time Doctoral Researcher working on sustainable built environment with special focus on wooden buildings to join Real Estate Economics Group. Carbon neutral construction materials are highly topical at the moment as the EU is preparing to introduce carbon tariffs. Wood as a building construction material have two main benefits, one is the less GHG emissions compared to other building material like steel or concrete, and the other is the potential to store carbon. The idea is to evaluate the possibility of replacing high-carbon building material with low-carbon material like wood. During the doctoral study the candidate can go through environmental and economic benefits in addition to the obstacles on the way of improving wood use as a low-carbon building material.

This position will be funded in the context of a research project by the Academy of Finland and the Finnish Ministry of Environment for 4 years (based on an initial 2-year contract + 2 years extension). The project is a joint consortium between Finland and Sweden and has three academic partners, i.e., Aalto University, Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) and Linköping University in addition to several partners from the industry.
