Offer Description

Aalto University is where science and art meet technology and business. We shape a sustainable future by making research breakthroughs in and across our disciplines, sparking the game changers of tomorrow and creating novel solutions to major global challenges. Our community is made up of 13 000 students, 400 professors and close to 4 500 other faculty and staff working on our dynamic campus in Espoo, Greater Helsinki, Finland. Diversity is part of who we are, and we actively work to ensure our community’s diversity and inclusiveness. This is why we warmly encourage qualified candidates from all backgrounds to join our community.

Metrology Research Institute in the School of Electrical Engineering (http://metrology.aalto.fi/ ) is searching for a graduate student for doctoral studies. Your background could be e.g. electrical engineering, optics, automation, or physics. Metrology Research Institute is the National Standards Laboratory of optical quantities in Finland. The doctoral researcher takes part in maintaining and developing the national standards, and customer calibrations. Work also includes teaching.

We have recently started two new projects funded by the European Union, one on developing new LED-based standard light sources for the UV region (Newstand), and the other on characterizing personal dosimeters (MeLiDos). The research for the thesis starts in these projects.

We appreciate good study records, fluent written and oral skills in Finnish and / or English languages, and practical skills, e.g. practical hobbies. Work requires some traveling e.g. to project meetings and conferences.

Please apply with a motivation letter, CV, and study records by February 25, 2024 through our recruitment system. You can access the recruitment system by using the “Apply now!” link below. The vacancy may be filled already before the deadline, if a suitable candidate is found.

Please note: Aalto University’s employees should apply for the position via our internal HR system Workday (Internal Jobs) by using their existing Workday user account (not via the external webpage for open positions).
