The Faculty of Education and Welfare Studies, in Vaasa  offers 8 funded positions for doctoral researchers (max. 48 months/position). The faculty covers research and education in the fields of education, health sciences and social sciences and the funded positions are available within the following doctoral programmes: 

• The Doctoral Programme in Education (main subjects: Education (General), Education (Teacher Oriented), Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Adult Education, Home Economics, Sloyd Science
• The Doctoral Programme in Health Sciences (main subject: Caring Science)
• The Doctoral Programme in Social Sciences (main subjects: Social Policy, Developmental Psychology)

Of the eight doctoral positions, one is within the Finland Fellowship programme for non-EU/EEA doctoral researchers , two doctoral positions are with a focus on early childhood education and two in educational leadership.

Doctoral researcher positions in early childhood education
For this position we are primarily looking for someone with a master's degree in early childhood education or another suitable master's degree with a research focus on early childhood education. The main subject of the doctoral degree is early childhood education (see eligibility requirements ). If you are applying for one of the doctoral positions in early childhood education, this must be clearly stated in the application.

Doctoral researcher positions in Educational Leadership
For this position we are primarily looking for someone with a master's degree in educational sciences or another suitable master's degree. A principal or school leader education, experience of educational administration and previous doctoral studies are considered particularly meritorious. The research of the doctoral researcher is focused on the educational leadership of the educational system and is part of an ongoing research program within which the final research plans are formulated. If you are applying for one of the doctoral positions in Educational Leadership, it should be clearly stated in the application.

In addition, Åbo Akademi University invites applications for three doctoral researcher positions within the research profile Solutions for Health . The link to research within the Solutions for Health profile should be clearly stated in the research plan, i.e. how the thesis can support preventive health care in different forms and among different age groups. The positions advertised within the research profile belong to the existing doctoral programmes at ÅAU. If you are applying for one of the positions within Solutions for health, it should be clearly mentioned in the application.

The employment starts on September 1, 2024 or as per agreed.  The doctoral position within the Finland Fellowship programme may start January 1, 2025, at the earliest.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EVALUATION

This announcement is open for those who have a Master's Degree AND a supervisor or a potential supervisor from Åbo Akademi University (who has agreed to supervise the applicant) within any of the subjects represented at the Faculty of Education and Welfare Studies. 

Applicants must receive their Master's degree (or equivalent) on June 30th 2024, at the latest (a copy of degree certificate or a certificate of completed degree achieved after the application period has closed should be sent to [email protected] ) .
 
An applicant, who is not yet accepted as a doctoral researcher at the faculty, needs to fulfil the requirements for doctoral studies according to the principles for admission to the doctoral programmes within the faculty. Please note, that there is a separate application process for the admission to a doctoral programme at ÅAU. The applicant can apply for the study right after receiving the result on the funded position. When the employment commences, the doctoral researcher must be enrolled in the relevant doctoral programme. 

In the recruitment, the applicants are assessed based on their previous study achievements, research plan, and possible results of previous research in the relevant field or related subjects.Previously received funding for doctoral studies will be considered when determining the final length of the employment (the received funding can amount to a total maximum of 48 months).

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Doctoral researchers employed by Åbo Akademi University should actively take part in the research and education within the faculty, in Vaasa.  

Åbo Akademi University applies the salary system of Finnish universities. The salary for a doctoral position will be based on levels 2-4 of the job demand level for teaching and researching staff in the salary system. Currently, the starting salary for doctoral researchers is approximately 2580 € per month. The salary increases as the candidate makes progress towards a doctoral degree and the finalization of the studies.

Doctoral researchers will have total working time, which means 1,612 hours per academic year. The employment is fulltime. The individual study plan for doctoral researchers will be evaluated annually. 

A trial period applies to new employees.

Doctoral researchers already registered at ÅAU: Account of all previous funding (salary, working grants) received for the doctoral studies (funding organization + time period + sum received), and other funding that has been applied for (in addition to this application).

Fakulteten för pedagogik och välfärdsstudier utlyser åtta avlönade doktorandplatser att sökas (max 48 månader/plats).  Vid fakulteten bedrivs forskning och utbildning inom pedagogiska vetenskaper, hälsovetenskaper och socialvetenskaper och fakulteten erbjuder de finansierade doktorandbefattningarna inom följande doktorandprogram:

Doktorandbefattningar i småbarnspedagogik
I den här rekryteringen söker vi främst dig med en magisterexamen inom småbarnspedagogik eller annan lämplig magisterexamen med forskningsinriktning småbarnspedagogik. Huvudämnet i doktorsexamen är småbarnspedagogik (se behörighetskrav ). Om du ansöker om en av doktorandplatserna i småbarnspedagogik bör det tydligt nämnas i ansökan.

Doktorandbefattningar i pedagogiskt ledarskap
I den här rekryteringen söker vi främst dig med en magisterexamen inom pedagogiska vetenskaper eller annan lämplig magisterexamen. Som särskilt meriterande ses rektors- eller skolledarutbildning, erfarenhet av utbildningsadministration och tidigare forskarstudier. Doktorandernas forskning är inriktad mot utbildningsväsendets pedagogiska ledarskap, och ingår i ett pågående forskningsprogram inom vilken de slutliga forskningsplanerna formuleras. Om du ansöker om en av doktorandplatserna i pedagogiskt ledarskap bör det tydligt nämnas i ansökan.

Ytterligare utlyser Åbo Akademi tre doktorandbefattningar inom forskningsprofilen Lösningar för hälsa . Kopplingen till forskning inom profilen Lösningar för hälsa bör tydligt framgå i forskningsplanen, d.v.s. hur avhandlingen kan stöda förebyggande hälsovård i olika former och bland olika åldersgrupper. Platserna som utlyses inom forskningsprofilen hör till de befintliga doktorandprogrammen vid ÅA. Om du ansöker om en av platserna inom Lösningar för hälsa bör det tydligt nämnas i ansökan. 

Fakulteten uppmuntrar nya doktorander att söka de utlysta doktorandanställningarna

Anställningen inleds 1.9 2024, i övrigt enligt överenskommelse. Anställningen som ingår i Finland Fellowship programmet för doktorander från länder utanför EU/EES kan inledas tidigast 1.1.2025.   

BEHÖRIGHETSKRAV OCH BEDÖMNING
Denna utlysning är öppen för de som har en magisterexamen OCH en handledare eller tilltänkt handledare vid Åbo Akademi vid något av de huvudämnen som finns vid fakulteten för pedagogik och välfärdsstudier. Sökande måste ha avlagt sin magisterexamen (eller motsvarande) senast 30.6.2024 (en kopia på examensbetyg eller intyg över avlagd examen som erhålls efter ansökningstidens utgång skickas till [email protected] ).  

Sökande som inte redan har studierätt för forskarutbildning vid fakulteten bör uppfylla kriterierna för antagning till forskarutbildning i enlighet med principerna för antagning till doktorandprogrammen vid fakulteten. Notera att anhållan om studierätt till forskarutbildningen sker via ett separat ansökningsförfarande . Sökande kan ansöka om studierätt efter att ha fått besked om de avlönade befattningarna. Då anställningen inleds bör doktoranden vara antagen till doktorandprogrammet. 

Vid anställning av doktorander utvärderas sökanden på basis av studieprestationer, forskningsplan och eventuella forskningsresultat inom ämnesområdet eller närliggande ämne.

För doktorandstudierna erhållen tidigare finansiering påverkar den slutgiltiga längden på anställningen (finansieringen får uppgå till tot. max 48 mån.).  
 
ANSTÄLLNINGSVILLKOR
Anställda doktorander ska vara en aktiv del av fakultetens forskning och utbildning på campus i Vasa.  
 
Åbo Akademi följer de finska universitetens lönesystem. Lönen för doktorander läggs enligt kravnivåerna 2-4 för undervisnings- och forskningspersonal. För närvarande är ingångslönen för en ny doktorand ca 2580 €/månad. Lönen kommer att justeras vartefter avhandlingsarbetet framskrider.  

Anställda doktorander följer systemet med helhetsarbetstid om 1612 timmar per år. Anställningen är på heltid. Doktoranders individuella studieplan uppföljs årligen.  

Vid nyanställning tillämpas prövotid.

Redan antagna ÅA-doktorander: Redovisning över tidigare finansiering (lön, arbetsstipendier) som erhållits för doktorandstudierna (finansiär + tidsperiod + summa) samt eventuell annan finansiering som har sökts för studierna (utöver denna ansökan).
