The Faculty of Arts, Psychology and Theology, in Turkuoffers 4 new, funded positions for doctoral researchers (max. 48 months/position), including one within the Finland Fellowship programme for non-EU/EEA doctoral researchers . 

The Faculty covers research and education in culture, history and philosophy, languages, speech and language pathology, psychology and theology and the funded positions are, available within the following doctoral programmes: 

• The Doctoral Programme in Arts (main subjects: English Language and Literature, Philosophy, Finnish Language, French Language and Literature, Gender Studies, Comparative Literature, Musicology, Nordic Ethnology, Nordic Folkloristics, Study of Religions, Russian Language and Literature, Swedish Language, German Language and Literature)
• The Doctoral Programme in Theology (main subjects: Exegetics, Church History, Practical Theology, Study of Religions, Systematic Theology)
• The Doctoral Programme in Historical Sciences (main subjects: General History, Nordic History, Art History)
• The Doctoral Programme in Psychology and Speech and Language Pathology (main subjects: Psychology, Speech and Language Pathology).

In this recruitment we give priority to new or newly admitted doctoral researchers, who started their thesis project no more than two years ago (statement of previous funding is attached).

In addition, Åbo Akademi University invites applications for three doctoral researchers positions within the research profile Solutions for Health . The link to research within the Solutions for Health profile should be clearly stated in the research plan, i.e. how the thesis can support preventive health care in different forms and among different age groups. The positions advertised within the research profile belong to the existing doctoral programmes at ÅAU. If you are applying for one of the positions within Solutions for health, it should be clearly mentioned in the application.

An employment as doctoral researcher may start September 1, 2024 or as per agreed. The doctoral position within the Finland Fellowship programme may start January 1, 2025, at the earliest.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EVALUATION
This announcement is open for those who have a Master's Degree AND a supervisor or a potential supervisor from Åbo Akademi University (who has agreed to supervise the applicant) within any of the subjects represented at the Faculty of Arts, Psychology and Theology. Applicants must receive their Master's degree (or equivalent) on June 30th , 2024, at the latest (copy of degree certificate achieved after the application has closed should be sent to [email protected] .

An applicant, who is not yet accepted as a doctoral researcher at the Faculty, needs to fulfil the requirements for doctoral studies according to the principles for admission to the doctoral programmes within the faculty. Please note that there is a separate application process for the admission to a doctoral programme at ÅAU. You may start the application process after receiving notice of a possible funded position. When the employment commences, the doctoral researcher needs to be enrolled in the relevant doctoral programme.

The applicants are assessed on the basis of their study achievements, research plan, and possible results of previous research in the relevant field or related subjects. Previously received funding for doctoral studies will be considered when determining the final length of the employment (the received funding can amount to a total maximum of 48 months).

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Doctoral researchers employed by Åbo Akademi University should actively take part in the research and education within the faculty in Turku.  

Åbo Akademi University applies the salary system of Finnish universities. The salary for a doctoral position will be based on levels 2-4 of the job demand level for teaching and researching staff in the salary system. Currently, the starting salary for doctoral researchers is approximately 2,580 € per month. The salary increases as the candidate makes progress towards a doctoral degree and the finalization of the studies.  

Doctoral researchers will have total working time, which means 1,612 hours per academic year. The employment is full-time. The individual study plan for doctoral students will be evaluated annually. 

A trial period applies to new employees.

I den här rekryteringen prioriterar vi nya eller nyantagna doktorander, som inlett sitt avhandlingsprojekt för högst två år sedan (redogörelse över tidigare finansiering biläggs). 

Ytterligare utlyser Åbo Akademi 3 doktorandbefattningar inom forskningsprofilen Lösningar för hälsa. Kopplingen till forskning inom profilen Lösningar för hälsa bör tydligt framgå i forskningsplanen, d.v.s. hur avhandlingen kan stöda förebyggande hälsovård i olika former och bland olika åldersgrupper. Platserna som utlyses inom forskningsprofilen hör till de befintliga doktorandprogrammen vid ÅA. Om du ansöker om en av platserna inom Lösningar för hälsa bör det tydligt nämnas i ansökan.

Anställningen inleds 1.9.2024, i övrigt enligt överenskommelse. Anställningen som ingår i Finland Fellowship programmet för doktorander från länder utanför EU/EES kan inledas tidigast 1.1.2025.

BEHÖRIGHETSKRAV OCH BEDÖMNING
Denna utlysning är öppen för de som har en magisterexamen OCH en handledare eller tilltänkt handledare vid Åbo Akademi vid något av de huvudämnen som finns vid fakulteten för humaniora, psykologi och teologi. Sökande måste ha avlagt sin magisterexamen (eller motsvarande) senast 30.6.2024. En kopia på examensbetyg eller intyg över avlagd examen som erhålls efter ansökningstidens utgång skickas till [email protected] .  

Sökande som inte redan har studierätt för forskarutbildning vid fakulteten bör uppfylla kriterierna för antagning till forskarutbildning i enlighet med principerna för antagning till doktorandprogrammen vid fakulteten. Notera att anhållan om studierätt till forskarutbildningen sker via ett separat ansökningsförfarande . Sökande kan ansöka om separat studierätt efter att ha fått besked om de avlönade befattningarna. Då anställningen inleds bör doktoranden vara antagen till doktorandprogrammet. 

Sökanden utvärderas på basis av studieprestationer, forskningsplan och eventuella forskningsresultat inom ämnesområdet eller närliggande ämne. 

För doktorandstudierna erhållen tidigare finansiering påverkar den slutgiltiga längden på anställningen (finansieringen får uppgå till tot. max 48 mån.).

ANSTÄLLNINGSVILLKOR
Anställda doktorander ska vara en aktiv del av fakultetens forskning och utbildning på campus i Åbo.  

Åbo Akademi följer de finska universitetens lönesystem. Lönen för doktorander läggs enligt kravnivåerna 2-4 för undervisnings- och forskningspersonal. För närvarande är ingångslönen för en ny doktorand ca 2580 €/månad. Lönen kommer att justeras vartefter avhandlingsarbetet framskrider.

Anställda doktorander följer systemet med helhetsarbetstid om 1612 timmar per år. Anställningen är på heltid. Doktoranders individuella studieplan uppföljs årligen.  

Vid nyanställning tillämpas prövotid.
