We are now inviting applications for the position of Dean, School of Accounting and Finance. The Rector appoints a full-time Dean for a three-year term on the basis of applications after having heard the views of the School's management group. The starting date is 1.1.2022, or as agreed.

The School of Accounting and Finance  is one of Finland's largest educational units in its field and it is internationally known for its high-quality research activities. The School includes four disciplines: accounting, finance, business law and economics. In research, the unit's particular strengths are management accounting, corporate finance and financial markets, corporate financial statements, auditing, the effects of information regulation on business operations, intangible capital and financial literacy. 

Job description

The Dean leads and coordinates the activities of the School and is responsible for its finances as well as successful and efficient operations. As the director of the School, the Dean is responsible for the occupational well-being of the School's personnel and he/she is the manager of the School's employees. Furthermore, the Dean promotes collaboration between the Schools and research platforms as well as within the School, and is responsible for the quality of degree programmes. The duties of the Dean and the process for filling the position are further detailed in the regulations of the University of Vaasa.

The Dean reports to the Rector and is a member of the University Management Team. The Rector determines the Dean's job description in more detail together with the appointee. 


The appointee must hold a doctoral degree and have the competence and professional skills necessary for the duties of the position. Further requirements include: 

  • Good leadership skills demonstrated in practice;
  • Understanding of the academic world and a strategic vision for the development of the School and the University;
  • Financial knowledge; 
  • Excellent cooperation and interaction skills;  
  • Proficiency in spoken and written Finnish and English. Swedish language skills are considered beneficial.

When making the appointment, merit will be accorded for experience in scientific research and teaching as well as national and international cooperation in the appointee’s own field.
