Join our group of data scientists, machine learning specialists and data engineers. We are a down to earth group of experts who want their work to have an impact on society and help science flourish. Friendly chats over a cup of coffee are an important element of our working days.

We are looking for data scientists to strengthen our team. Our projects involve working with the Finnish scientific community as well as international researchers and are also growing toward computationally challenging industrial applications and data-driven public sector projects. Examples of the diverse projects we have recently been involved in include machine learning based description of Finnish text collections, analysis of the physical capacity of school children and scaling data processing of global biodiversity data on the largest supercomputers in the Nordics. We also develop CSC’s internal data analytics services and find new ways to disseminate data skills in the whole organisation.

You are a versatile data scientist with an excellent command of data analytics methods and the relevant tools in the field. You have a self-motivated approach to working and enthusiasm for professional development. You enjoy collaborating with customers and colleagues from diverse backgrounds. You can be focused either on the analytical aspects of data processing or the technical challenges related to building data driven systems (data engineering). We rely on teamwork and task rotation, sharing responsibilities based on the background and interests of the team members.

A successful candidate has a background that covers many of the relevant technical skills, including:

  • Deep understanding of data science and statistics
  • Understanding of machine learning
  • R or Python programming
  • Data reporting and visualisation
  • High-performance computing (HPC) experience is considered an asset
  • Teaching and training experience is considered an asset

In addition to the data science expertise, competences in software development or project coordination would be valuable additions to the team’s skill set.

You have a PhD or MSc in computer science or other relevant field and 2-3 years of relevant work experience. Good communication skills in verbal and written English are essential.

We are a non-profit company and base our development work on open source and open collaboration. This position is permanent and can be located in our Espoo or Kajaani office. We also have flexible options for remote working.
