Offer Description

Aalto University is where science and art meet technology and business. We shape a sustainable future by making research breakthroughs in and across our disciplines, sparking the game changers of tomorrow and creating novel solutions to major global challenges. Our community is made up of more than 12,000 students, 400 professors and over 4,000 other faculty and staff working on our dynamic campus in Espoo, Greater Helsinki, Finland. Diversity is part of who we are, and we actively work to ensure our community’s diversity and inclusiveness. This is why we warmly encourage qualified candidates from all backgrounds to join our community.

Would you like to grow a deep-tech startup? Are you excited about creating an international business from research in the field of micro- and nanotechnology and materials?

Aalto University is now looking for a

BUSINESS DEVELOPER FOR FUTURE DEEP-TECH STARTUP

to join a team of research experts of the Research to Business project WoundSprayIQ in the field of medical devices. WoundSprayIQ project focuses on shortening hospitalization times and improving treatment results for complicated, difficult-to-heal wounds, including burns and chronic wounds. Traditional treatment of these wounds is expensive and exerts a long-term burden both on the individual patient and healthcare. The WoundSprayIQ project will revolutionize the treatment with an innovative hand-held device allowing an accurate, adaptive, and personalized application procedure, which will potentially greatly impact the global wound care market worth billions of euros.

What you’ll do

You’ll actively identify partners for the project and negotiate with them. You also prepare commercialization paths to meet the potential clients’ demands. An important task is to make a go-to-market plan for the services and products of the project and map out different commercialization options e.g. start-up establishment.

What we offer

We offer a meaningful job where you can create a business from research in an international environment. You’ll get the support of the research team, mentors, Aalto Innovation Services, Aalto Startup Center, and the active Aalto community. After the project, there is a possibility that you could become part of the new deep tech startup as a CEO or Business Director.

You will be employed by Aalto University for the duration of the project. The project has already received funding from Business Finland for a duration of 18 months, starting October 2023. The position can be either full-time or part-time depending on your skills and role.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a business-minded person with an entrepreneurial mindset. You don’t need to be an expert in the medical industry or healthcare but share a genuine interest in building a commercial business of a superb deep-tech startup. We have the technology experts and you bring the business drive.

What we value?

  • Fluency in English is required, and fluency in other European languages such as French and German is a strong plus

  • Experience and proven track record in business development, commercialization, and entrepreneurship

  • Ability to work with people from different backgrounds

  • Excellent teamwork, negotiation, and communications skills

Working in Aalto

All our work in Aalto is guided by the values of the university: responsibility, courage, and collaboration. It’s the people that create Aalto, now and in the future. We want to be an open community where equality and inclusion enable curiosity, innovation, collaboration, and well-being. We offer you a meaningful and inspiring environment. We are proud of our purpose to shape a sustainable future. We spark the game changers of tomorrow and renew society with research-based knowledge, creativity, and an entrepreneurial mindset.

Life at the transformed campus is vibrant and filled with amazing architecture, calming nature, and a variety of cafes, restaurants, services, and good connections along the recently opened metro line.

Ready to apply?

Are you still on board? If you’d like to grow this amazing deep-tech startup, send us your CV and motivation letter with a salary request and references through our recruitment system.

The call is open until 3 September 2023, but we will start reviewing and interviewing candidates immediately. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
