The Department of Marketing at Hanken School of Economics invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor -position in Marketing / Vasa, starting 1.8.2022.

The Hanken tenure track , implies an employment starting with a fixed term of 5 years. After this 5-year term, you will have the opportunity to advance to a tenured associate professor level (and later to a position as full professor) upon fulfilling the university’s criteria for career advancement in terms of high-quality research and publications, teaching, and service.

Being a teacher and supervisor in marketing at Hanken implies endowing students with an understanding of marketing as a strategic process that purposefully drives a business towards meaningful growth. Aligned with this, our study programme focuses on the critical role of customer and market insight for the successful strategic management of service, experiences and business model innovation in current and future business environments. Our research profile strongly builds on thought leadership in service management – four research areas being outlined: customers and relations, marketing logics and strategizing, business markets and societal dynamics, and marketing effectiveness and profitability. The creation of new knowledge, of high relevance for the embedding corporate world, is of key concern. 

As an Assistant Professor at the Department of Marketing you will:

  • Conducting high-quality research meeting international standards, publishing your research in high-rank journals, and communicating your research output to the business community and the society at large,
  • Contributing to the development of new research areas, capabilities, and projects 
  • Contributing to the competence development of students by providing research-based teaching and supervision at BSc, MSc, and PhD levels in Marketing
  • Contributing to the development of curriculums and take responsibility for your own pedagogical development
  • Contributing to the development of international collaboration and applications for externally funded research projects,
  • Engaging in various departmental and university duties relating to teaching, research, and administration.

Employment terms and salary

The annual working time in the position is 1612 hours. During semesters, you are expected to spend a minimum average of three days per week at the Department in Vaasa in order to actively contribute to the research and teaching environment. Teaching tasks are allocated based on the curriculum needs of the subject and by considering relevant own expertise. Curriculum details are available in the subject’s current course portfolio . 

The salary is based on the university salary system in Finland (including employee healthcare as well as pension and holiday contributions). The salary range is approximately 42,000€—52,000€ per year; the exact salary level will depend upon the recruited individual’s qualifications and performance. 

Interviews and trial lecture

Qualified candidates will be interviewed in person or through videoconferencing. Final short-listed candidates will be invited for a trial lecture. If possible, a campus visit at Hanken School of Economics in Vaasa will be arranged
