We are now inviting applications for the position of Assistant professor for a fixed-term of two years. The starting date is in April 2021 or as agreed. The employment is subject to a probationary period.

The position is located in the School of Accounting and Finance and connected to the VEBIC research platform.

Your role

The research profile of the position focuses on the sustainable development of the economy from an energy sector perspective.

Expected areas of expertise and interest can include but are not limited to:

  • Economic modelling and simulations in the energy sector
  • Innovation ecosystem in the energy sector
  • Policy instruments, for example taxation and regulation affecting the energy sector
  • Financial literacy to support consumers’ sustainable and energy-saving behaviour
  • Digitalisation, research & development, and other intangible capital in energy transformation

We are particularly interested in applicants with interdisciplinary interests and strong records of, or potential for, excellence in teaching.

The position is research-orientated and includes research as well as applying for external funding for research projects and working in and/or leading the projects. The appointed person will also participate in teaching and thesis supervision in the Economics programs (Bc.S & Mc.S). The teaching and supervising duties are specifically related to the research content of the task. Work may also include university administrative tasks.

The yearly working time is 1612 hours based on the collective bargaining agreement for universities. Duties at work are annually agreed upon in the work plan.


As Assistant professor, you are required to hold a relevant doctoral degree. You should also have the ability to conduct independent scientific work and the teaching skills required for the task.

Personnel recruited to fill teaching and research positions are to be proficient in Finnish. However, the University may grant an exemption from the Finnish language proficiency requirement. The salary is based on the University Salary System for Teaching and Research Staff.  The salary for an Assistant Professor is based on demand levels 5-6 (2968–3461 €/month). An additional personal salary component is paid based on work performance.
