The Department of Computer Science at Aalto University – in the top-20 young universities worldwide – invites applications for tenure-track positions at theassistant professor level. Candidates with exceptional merits can apply for a tenured appointment at the associate professor level. We welcome applications in all areas of computer science, including but not limited to:

The Department of Computer Science ( )  is home to world-class research in modern computer science, combining research on foundations and innovative applications. An international community with 47 professors and more than 400 employees from 45 countries, it is the largest department at Aalto University and the largest computer science unit in Finland. The department consistently ranks high in global rankings, for example,1st in Northern countries and 56th worldwide in Times Higher Education subject ranking 2020.

Requirements and Process

Candidates applying in this call should clearly indicate in the application form to which level they apply.Applicants at the assistant professor level should demonstrate excellent research potential in addition to teaching ability. At the associate professor level, demonstrated research merits, as well as teaching merits, are required; we expect the candidates to have an outstanding track-record in research (including publications in top venues), success in acquiring external funding, and demonstrated academic leadership. All applicants are required to have a doctoral degree in computer science or a field relevant to their research in computer science, or expected to obtain their doctoral degree no later than August 31, 2022.

The applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their research achievements and potential in relation to their career stage, their teaching merits and activity in the scientific community. Recommendation letters will be taken into consideration, and applicants are encouraged to solicit eminent computer science scholars as referees. External reviews will be used as part of the evaluation for the associate professor level candidates. Short-listed applicants will be invited to present and discuss their research with faculty. The evaluation follows the tenure track system at Aalto University ( ) and is mainly based on research merits as well as the applicant’s potential. A person on the tenure track system is expected to perform world‐class research, to teach, advise and otherwise advance both graduate and undergraduate education, to be an active member of the international scientific community, and to exhibit academic leadership. Career advancement on the tenure track is based on scheduled performance assessments, which take into account the candidate’s merits in all these areas.

3. research statement (recommended length: four to six pages),

4. teaching statement (recommended length: two to six pages),

5. list of publications with no more than five of them clearly highlighted as most important.
