The Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences  at the University of Jyväskylä is currently seeking to recruit an Assistant or Associate Professor (Tenure track) in Sport Pedagogy, especially in the field of adapted physical activity. The position will start on September 2nd 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter and will be filled for a fixed term of 3-5 years in accordance with the tenure track model at the University of Jyväskylä . 

In this position the focus is in promoting physical activity for people with diverse physical abilities and fostering well-being and functional capacity through physical activity. The assistant/associate professorship will promote equality and equity in sport. The position relates to two of the University of Jyväskylä's research priorities: learning, teaching and interaction, and physical activity, health and well-being. 

The Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences at the University of Jyväskylä is responsible for university-level education as well as doctoral education in the field of Sport and Health Sciences in Finland. The development of responsible expertise and high-level competence, as well as meeting culturally and socially diverse competence needs, are essential in the education and research of adapted physical activity. 

Tasks and qualifications 

Assistant or Associate Professor will be responsible for research and education in the field of adapted physical activity, and the development of those in collaboration with other teachers and researchers in the faculty. The tasks will also include acquisition of competitive research funding, management of research projects as well as supervision of doctoral dissertations and Master´s theses. In addition, the Assistant or Associate Professor will also be responsible for the development of social interaction in the field and participation in both domestic and international cooperation. 

The successful applicant is expected to have a doctoral degree in Sport Sciences or another relevant field, such as Health Sciences or Education, evidence of adapted physical activity -related research and international cooperation, and the ability to provide high-quality research-based teaching and to supervise theses. At the Assistant Professor level, experience of supervising doctoral theses will be considered an advantage. At the Associate Professor level, experience of supervising doctoral theses is required.

Candidates for the position of Assistant Professor must have completed a doctoral degree within the last nine years (typically within 3-9 years). Under special circumstances (e.g. parental or childcare leave, military service/non-military service, or long-term illness), the nine-year rule is extended accordingly.

Salary  

The salary is based on the job demand level and the employee’s personal performance, in accordance with the salary system for Finnish universities. The annual salary of an Assistant Professor is appr. 51.000-59.000 EUR and of an Associate Professor appr. 59.000-69.000 EUR (gross income, including holiday bonus), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. A trial period of six months will be used at the beginning of the employment.
