Applications are invited for the post of a Doctoral Researcher in Register-based Psychiatric Research working as part of a research team on the European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant-funded project, “Effects of mental disorders on family members’ and friends’ wellbeing and prosperity (MENTALNET)”.

The project is based in the Psychosocial Factors and Health -research group (https://www2.helsinki.fi/en/researchgroups/psychosocial-factors-and-health ) at the Department of Psychology and Logopedics, Faculty of Medicine,  University of Helsinki.

The contract will be fixed term for 3.5 years starting from March 2023, or as agreed. 

The aim of the MENTALNET-project is to examine (1) how mental disorders in children affect their parents’ and siblings’ wellbeing and socioeconomic resources, (2) the effect of mental disorders on the wellbeing and socioeconomic resources of the spouse, and (3) the effects of mental disorders on peer networks. The Doctoral Researcher will carry out an individual research project into some of these themes.

Requirements

We are looking for a motivated doctoral researcher, who is interested in register-based psychiatric research, to join our research group and the MENTALNET -project. The applicants should have:

  • Master’s degree in a field that is relevant to the research topic, including psychology, sociology, statistics and medicine
  • Good knowledge of quantitative methodology, and the ability to use Stata and/or R
  • Proven ability and motivation, demonstrated through previous degree studies or otherwise, to pursue postgraduate studies and a doctoral degree according to the study plan.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team are likely to be of particular relevance.

The monthly gross salary will start from between €2,400 to €2,700, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience.
