The faculty of Education and Psychology is currently seeking to recruit candidates to the position of 

1-2 POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHERS,  in research on Digitally Enhanced Learning Environments

The position can start on September 1st 2022 or thereafter, for a fixed term of 3 to 5 years.

Qualifications we are looking for

The position is linked to the strategic research goals of the faculty which include the aim of conducting research on phenomena related to learning and interaction in technology-enhanced environments, and on developing technology-rich environments and learning technologies. Research foci and expertise of candidates applying for the positions of the call can related to e.g., methodological development or research applying artificial intelligence linked with the areas of the faculty research strengths described below.

The faculty research strengths within the field include e.g. utilization of multimodal data in research, computer-supported collaborative learning research, research involving simulations, research on emotions and interaction processes in technology-rich learning environments and research on development of digital skills. Key research infrastructure of the faculty include equipment for psychophysiological and VR research and eye tracking research and brain research laboratories. The faculty coordinates a Finnish Academy funded Center of Excellence on Learning dynamics and intervention research (InterLearn). The faculty is also preparing a profiling area application on the area of development of methodologies for “Digitalization in and for learning and interaction” in association with the Finnish Academy universities’ profiling call. Post-doctoral researchers will become associated with one of the areas of research strength and existing research groups.

The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of a postdoctoral researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines . In the present position a PhD in educational sciences or applicable field is required.  The PhD  degree required for the position must have been completed before starting the position. A good command of English is required and a proficiency to teach in English will be considered beneficial. You are expected to have excellent written and oral communication skills and to be able to work in research team settings

The focus of the post-doctoral position is on internationally high level of research. The applicant is required to show strong prior evidence of research in the field, and demonstrate active research initiatives and research collaboration  which strengthens the focal area of the call.

Strengths taken into account in evaluation of applicants include evidence of research networks, experience and evidence of competitive research funding, strong methodological expertise and development and experience of multidisciplinary research and groups.  Strengths taken into account include also experience of research using, developing and analysing methods with a focus on learning processes and interactions. Examples include research utilizing artificial intelligence, analyseses using psychophysiological measures such as heart rate variability and eyetracking measures, experience on VR/XR research and data-analytical expertise. Assets that may be considered in the selection include  also teaching experience and pedagogical development work and evidence of scientific or societal impact in the field.

The annual salary range will be approximately 38,000 EUR for the Postdoctoral Researcher (gross income, including holiday bonus), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. A trial period of six months will be used in the beginning of the employment.
