Postdoctoral researcher in very-low field magnetic resonance imaging

Updated: about 2 years ago
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

We are looking for an expert in magnetic resonance imaging to work as a postdoctoral researcher in Electromagnetics in health technologies group at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation.

Project description and main responsibilities

We are setting up a research environment for very low field magnetic resonance imaging (VLF-MRI). The research environment will encompass computational modelling and experimental tools as well as methods for human centred design studies. The information and tools produced in this project can be used for the research and development of new products and services for diagnostics, preventive medicine, and wellness. Our first VLF-MRI system consists of a ~20 mT magnet for whole-body imaging, allowing flexible control of imaging parameters, permitting studies of the features and capabilities of VLF-MRI.

The postdoc will be responsible for the development of new imaging sequences and image reconstruction methods for VLF-MRI. The goal is to build a proof-of-a concept VLF MRI demonstrator that will be tested and evaluated as realistically as possible in laboratory and hospital environments. Another goal is to publish the results in high-valued international forums.

Requirements

The candidate must have a doctoral degree in physics, electrical engineering or a related discipline. The candidate should have strong experience in MRI instrumentation and thorough understanding of MRI physics. We expect that the candidate has strong programming skills, an excellent publication record, working knowledge of English, and the ability to work alone and as a part of a team.

What we offer

Aalto University has excellent infrastructure for imaging research, including both high-field and low-field MRI systems as well as facilities for MEG, EEG, and TMS.

The postdoctoral fellowship includes possibilities to work with researchers from human-centred design and medical fields, to participate in the instruction of younger students, communication of research beyond scientific articles, and applying external funding.

Salary will be determined upon competence and experience of the applicant following the salary system of Finnish universities. The contract includes occupational health benefits.
