The Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering conducts research and arranges related courses in the field of electromagnetics, micro and nanotechnology, radio engineering, and space technology, featuring an international team of more than 150 Researchers and Research Assistants. The Department is part of the Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering (Aalto ELEC) with world-class research facilities and instruments.

The Photonics group at the Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering is looking for a talented and highly motivated

Postdoctoral Researcher in Ultrafast Fiber Lasers.

Your Role

Your goal as a Postdoctoral Researcher is to develop mid-infrared ultrafast fiber lasers with integrated optical modulators based on nanomaterials such as graphene and carbon nanotubes. You’ll get to conduct high-quality research independently and to work as an active member of the research collaboration between the Photonics group in Aalto University and nLight Oy based in Finland. The project is part of the current programs of the group in Aalto funded by the Finnish Research Impact Foundation.

Research Environment

This research position will be supported by the Photonics group at Aalto under the supervision of Dr. Diao Li. The group mainly focuses on the study of the physical properties of various nanomaterials (e.g. carbon nanotubes, nanowires, two-dimensional layered materials) for photonic and optoelectronic applications. The group is located in the university campus near Helsinki and offers a motivating and state-of-the-art research environment. The project will be led by Dr. Diao Li in Aalto. Dr. Li is working as a Staff Scientist in the Aalto Photonics group. His research focuses on integrated nanomaterials/nanodevices and their applications for ultrafast lasers.

Requirements

•    PhD degree in ultrafast photonics, ultrafast lasers or related topics is favourable for the position

•    Excellent knowledge of photonics, nonlinear optics, nanomaterials and integrated photonic devices

•    Proven track record in major scientific research

•    Good command in English

Salary and contract terms

Postdoctoral Researcher position will be filled for 2 years. The expected starting salary is approximately 3700 €/month, depending on experience and qualifications..
