Aalto University School of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for
Postdoctoral Researcher in Sustainable material development for renewable energy systems
Do you want to direct material development for energy systems towards a more sustainable future and have a meaningful impact on the Green Transition? The Research Group of Energy Conversion has a vacancy for an experienced researcher (Post-doc) to lead our research projects on Eco-design for solar cell and battery material development. This is a highly multi-disciplinary job where you will identify and characterize material combinations of complex energy systems and conduct recycling analysis across a wide spectrum of technical and non-technical criteria (including, e.g., cost and societal implications). The position also involves collaboration with a range of academic and industrial partners. On a day-to-day basis, you will conduct laboratory experiments and analysis, write high impact publications, supervise students from the Bachelor’s to the PhD level, participate in teaching activities, and prepare further funding applications.
Requirements
We are looking for a passionate researcher that wants to have an impact on the development of future energy systems and is eager to pick up new skills for a highly multidisciplinary project. Specifically, we would like you to:
Have a PhD in a relevant subject.
Have an outstanding track record in designing and executing research experiments and analysing their results.
Be able to communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner both in spoken and written English.
Have hands on experience with the physical characterization of materials (e.g. SEM, TEM, XRD and XRF)
Have a deep understanding of complex energy systems (batteries and/or solar cells), ideally including experience with materials development and recycling
Have a good understanding of electrochemical methods
Be able to function effectively as a part of a team (good interpersonal skills).
The following are considered as an advantage:
Previous experience with Eco-design and/or sustainability metrics for complex energy systems
Relevant industrial experience or experience in working with an industrial customer
Hands-on experience with scientific computing and simulation tools, familiarity with statistical approaches to experiment design and data analysis
Leadership and/or supervision experience
What we offer
Aalto University’s Research Group of Energy Conversion (https://youtu.be/mK41f24lX1k ) offers a friendly, multidisciplinary, and diverse working environment to further your research career, in addition to excellent resources to conduct your research. We also offer the possibility of professional growth through trainings in leadership, pedagogy, preparing funding applications, etc.
Salary, terms and conditions
