We are now looking for Postdoctoral Researcher in Business Analytics

Oulu Business School is an AACSB accredited international research and educational institute. It is one of the eight faculties within the University of Oulu, having around 1 500 students and 100 faculty and staff members. It offers degrees of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Master of Science in Business Administration with six different majors, and a PhD program

Description of the position

As the aim of the Postdoctoral Researcher’s work is to produce high-quality research-based knowledge, the duties include scientific research and publishing, as well as planning and management of research projects, and scientific collaboration. Moreover, they include also teaching in the Business Analytics Master’s program, supervising of Master’s theses, and participation in the related educational development work.  The position is located at the Oulu Business School, but it requires close collaboration with the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering of the university, and interaction with the surrounding community.

Qualification requirements

An appointee to the position must hold a doctoral degree in Business Administration, Economics or such closely related disciplines as Information Management and Information Systems, with high-quality scientific publications as an evidence of successful research, the teaching skills necessary for the position, and an ability to acquire external research funding. The applicant must also show interests and abilities to collaborate with the international research community and with various kinds of external stakeholders.

To successfully carry out the job, knowledge of such areas of business analytics as statistics, applied analytics, predictive modeling, simulation, and operations management are needed. The application domains of interest include but are not limited to business intelligence, market and customer behavior analysis, management decision making, computational finance and econometrics. Experiences in analytics methods, tools and data sources are appreciated, in relation to the conceptual and theoretical foundations of analytics.

The language proficiency requirements are defined in the Government Decree on Universities (770/2009). For university teaching and research positions in Finland, a full command of the teaching language, Finnish or Swedish, is required. The language of instruction at the University of Oulu is Finnish, and the degrees are awarded in Finnish. Teaching may also be given in English. If the successful applicant is not proficient in Finnish, he or she is expected to acquire moderate proficiency within two years after the selection, as this is essential for the duties and for integration into the workplace and the Finnish society.

Salary

A salary to be paid in the position will be in accordance with the Finnish universities salary system for teaching and research personnel: level 05. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50% of the job-specific component). The starting salary will be approximately 3500-3600€ per month before taxes.

2) A list of publications classified as follows: (1) articles in international peer-reviewed journals, (2) articles in international peer-reviewed volumes of scientific significance and articles in peer-reviewed conference proceedings, (3) articles in domestic peer-reviewed journals, (4) articles in domestic peer-reviewed volumes of scientific significance and articles in domestic peer-reviewed conference proceedings, (5) scientific monographs, (6) other scientific publications, e.g., articles in scientific journals and conference proceedings with no peer-review process, and in university or department publications.
3) Teaching merits significant for the position presented in English in the form of a teaching portfolio or a similar account.
4) Collaboration merits describing the activities through which the applicant has been engaged with the business life and the larger society, related to the applicant’s approach to conduct impactful research and education.
5) A concise (1-2 pages) plan for research work.
6) Copies in electronic form of at most five (5) publications and other works that the applicant wishes to be taken into consideration upon evaluation of eligibility and merits.

Before assuming the duties of the position, the successful applicant must present her/his original degree certificates or certified copies thereof, as well as a signed Curriculum Vitae.

Official Employment

The position is scheduled to be filled starting on the 1st of January 2022 or as agreed, and it is subject to a six months’ trial period.

According to the principles of the university, the Postdoctoral Researcher’s position will be filled for a fixed period of five years.
