Updated: 4 months ago

Are you a communications professional who is looking for meaningful work in an international atmosphere? Are you fascinated by natural sciences and (quantum) physics? Then this could be your next career step.

Department of Applied Physics at Aalto University, national research infrastructure OtaNano and the newly launched InstituteQ (Finnish Quantum Institute) are looking for a communications professional who will organize and implement their communications for public engagement. That is why we are now seeking an

with a demonstrated ability to translate complex topics into texts that are interesting and understandable for the broader public, as well as interest in generating and implementing communications plans.

What do you get to do?

Your time will be divided among the three parties mentioned above: Department of Applied Physics, OtaNano and InstituteQ. You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic communications initiatives for each of these entities, together with our collaborators (see below). The scope of the communications may vary depending on the entity, but the main communications should support the visibility of research, education, and innovation activities in international and national media outlets.

Your main responsibilities are to plan, implement and monitor communications in collaboration with the relevant partners of each entity - for example the Aalto communications team, the Departmental Management Team, Infrastructure/Institutional Directors and other team members including representatives from the University of Helsinki and VTT. In this role you get to create, edit and produce holistic content, in particular press releases, news articles, website development, social media, and other relevant digital platforms such as e-newsletters.

What are we looking for?

  • Previous experience (at least 2-3 years) in similar duties

  • A degree in an applicable field (e.g. natural sciences, engineering, communications, marketing)

  • Strong ability to form overviews

  • Excellent skills in written communication in English; Finnish is an asset

  • Fluency with various communications channels and social media

  • Interest towards (quantum) physics, natural sciences and technology

We are looking for someone with good interpersonal skills and who is self-directed, active and development oriented. You also tolerate routine duties.

Photography and video editing skills, as well as other visual expertise (such as InDesign and Adobe-CC) are considered an asset.

What do we offer?

You will become a part of an inspired and diverse academic community where your input is highly valued, and you get to learn something new every day - at the very least about the exciting world of physics!

We are an internationally oriented community and home to world-class research and teaching. The department is known for long-term, high-quality and innovative research carried out in cooperation with the world's leading research groups.

We offer many benefits, like flexible working times, a wide range of staff training opportunities and a possibility for partial remote working also after Covid restrictions. We are located in the Otaniemi campus of Aalto University in Espoo, with a metro station and a shopping center in our campus area.

This is a full-time permanent position, and the salary is determined according to the salary system for Finnish universities.
