The University of Macau (UM) is an internationalized public comprehensive university in the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) located at the west bank of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The Institute of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMS) invites applications for the “UM Macao Fellow” programme in Chinese Medical Sciences, Medicinal Administration, Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Immunology and Microbiology, Drug Discovery and Development, Bioinformatics and Artificial Intelligence in Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Studies, Biological Science and Technology for a maximum period of 3 years.

Established in 2002, ICMS is an academic centre of excellence in biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences in the region. It hosts the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, which is China’s first and only state key Laboratory in the field of Chinese medical sciences. Over the past decade, the Institute has established an international reputation in conducting high-quality research with special emphasis on quality control of Chinese medicine, drug discovery & development, systems pharmacology and molecular pharmaceutics. It has secured outstanding funding support from both national and regional governments and built long-term strategic collaborations with top academic organizations around the world. In particular, the candidate should have the following credentials:

  • Macao permanent resident;
  • Doctoral degree holder from a reputable university.
  • Depending on the applicants’ academic qualification and experiences, the successful appointees will be appointed as Post-doctoral Fellow or Research Assistant Professor and will hold the functional title of “UM Macao Fellow” (澳大濠江學者).

    The selected appointee is expected to assume duty in August 2022.

    Successful recruits may be requested to seek visiting appointments at a reputable research or academic institution outside Macao for enhancement on their qualifications and professional experience, as well as their opportunities for research and publications.

    Remuneration

    A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP507,780 will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
