Job Description

The Department of Surgery of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at National University of Singapore has immediate opening for a Research Assistant positions in our Cardiac Surgery Laboratory.

Under the direction of Professor Theodoros Kofidis, our lab focuses on minimally invasive cardiac surgery innovations and myocardial regenerationOur lab is located in the campus of Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine of the National University of Singapore, and supported by core laboratories of the University, and Nation-wide cardiovascular research programs, fulfilling various aspects of cardiovascular research.

Our research laboratory is equipped with advanced surgical and imaging facilities (e.g. CT scanner, MRI, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, heart lung machine, surgical endoscopic system and instruments) and laboratory equipment for biological research. Currently, we are working on well-funded projects to investigate development of a novel heart valve design, and myocardial restoration using cells and biomaterials.

These exciting projects will be good opportunities for young researchers who pursue further training in cardiovascular surgery and research, including cardiac tissue engineering, heart valve surgery, and medical devices.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible to work under supervision of both the Principal Investigator Professor Theodoros Kofidis and Professor Subbu and team members to ensure the successful completion of the project on time. He / She will be asked to attached to Prof Subbu’s team to carry out the following duties

 Main duties        

  • Drug elution heart valve design, development and testing 
  • Particle fabrication and cell studies:
  • Coating of drug to heart valves and nanoparticle fabrications. Cellular and drug          
  • release studies.
  • Prepare progress report and manuscript
  • General laboratory management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor / master degree in bio-medical science
  • Experience in nanoparticle fabrication experience
  • Experience in Good interpersonal skill and communication in English
  • Good at statistics and office software

​​​​Appointments will be made on a 1 year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.
