About the opportunity

As the Multimodal Electron Microscopist Scientist, you will apply and develop your expertise in conducting research to support Microscopy Australia (MA) research users. Building on your experience, you will develop and implement combined & correlative microscopy workflows to support the user community of Microscopy Australia.

You will have the unique opportunity to work within an internationally recognised microscopy research facility with access to an outstanding array of world-class equipment, both within the facility and at our Microscopy Australia partner nodes. In this role, you will extend your professional network, provide collaborative research opportunities and interact with the diverse community users within the Microscopy Australia network.

In this opportunity, you will benefit from existing professional networks at Sydney Microscopy & Microanalysis of the University of Sydney and the staff of Microscopy Australia who share the passion for implementing best practices in microscopy and microanalysis.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • report to the Academic Director, Sydney Microscopy & Microanalysis
  • conduct research or scholarly activity within discipline, or area of expertise
  • provide technical support and training in a wide range of microscopy techniques, including scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the associated analysis (for example energy dispersive spectroscopy and/or electron backscatter diffraction, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), focused ion beam (FIB), sample preparation, optical microscopy and micro computed tomography) and atom probe tomography
  • contribute to the compiling of grant proposals and/or strategic reports

About you

  • tertiary qualification in Medical Science, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • wide-ranging experience in materials or biomaterials characterisation, including an expertise in scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the associated analysis, for example energy dispersive spectroscopy and/or electron backscatter diffraction, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), focused ion beam (FIB), sample preparation, optical microscopy, micro computed tomography (mCT) and atom probe tomography
  • extensive experience with high volume image data analysis programs
  • strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
