The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. The post-holder will lead the development and management of HHR’s operations, focusing on strengthening HR, finance, procurement and other operational systems and site infrastructure to enable long-term sustainability and future growth of the partnership. The post-holder will sit on the HHR management committee and is a senior professional services staff member whose responsibilities impact on all staff in HHR, which currently employs 60 staff and part-funds a further 100 staff.

Candidates must have a post-graduate degree in Business Administration or a related subject, or equivalent experience. The post holder must have substantial management experience in: a business operations role; finance systems and management; procurement systems and processes; HR operations and policy development. Experience in health and safety systems development, and transport and/or facility management is also essential. The post holder must have the ability to work closely and build relationships with national and international colleagues, and negotiate effectively with senior officials, having understood and taken consideration of complex political issues. Experience of living and working in a low-income country is essential. Further particulars are included in the job description. 

The full-time post is funded until 30 June 2023, with a high likelihood of extension subject to grant funding renewal. The salary will be on the Professional Services Scale at Grade 6, in the range £41,829 – £47,503 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in Harar, Ethiopia.
