The Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology at Tallinn University of Technology invites to apply for a tenured professor position in the field of Molecular Diagnostics and Bioinformatics.

The goal of the position is to consolidate and develop laboratory and data analysis expertise in genome-wide omics methods. Expected fields of research and development are genetics, biomedicine, sequencing methods, genome-wide data analysis in molecular and cell biology, bioinformatics.

TASKS

  • Research and development activities in the expected field and their organization, leading the described research topics.
  • Development of cooperation with other research and development institutions and enterprises.
  • Organization of the development of the necessary base for R&D activities in the field of molecular diagnostics.
  • Organization of the expansion of the necessary base for R&D activities in the field of molecular diagnostics.
  • Professional teaching, research, and development activities in the field of molecular biology in a balanced volume corresponding to the Regulation of Academic Career Management.
  • Supervision of doctoral, master's, and bachelor's students in conducting independent research.
  • Publication of research and development results; working as an expert in your field.
  • Conducting teaching and educational development activities at a modern methodological and educational technological level.
  • Organization of academic teaching and educational development activities and responsibility for their high standards in your field.
  • Attracting additional funding (from outside the university) to support your field of research.
  • Participation in the work of national and international professional decision-making bodies and committees.
  • Collaboration with editorial boards of scientific journals, reviewing scientific articles.
  • Popularization of your specialty and research field.
  • Coordination of professional continuing education.

This is a full-time post positioned at TalTech campus in Tallinn, Estonia. Specific Requirements

Required for the position:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD) in a related field of research of the position call. 
  • Previous international work experience in the described field of research; experience in both experimental work and data analysis is expected. 
  • Experience in research and development activities as an applicant and principal investigator of scientific projects. 
  • Experience in pedagogical work, including supervision of master's and doctoral theses. 
  • The level and citation of scientific publications are comparable to professors in the same field at the university's reference universities (h-index ≥18). 
  • Successful supervision of doctoral theses.

In addition, advanced Estonian will be a strong benefit. In case the candidate does not speak Estonian, then after 3 years from taking up the position the candidate is expected to acquire Estonian at the level of B2.
