The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering of Tallinn University of Technology invites applications for a tenured professor position in Logistics.

The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering is one of the largest departments in Tallinn University of Technology. We are responsible for two undergraduate programs (Integrated Engineering and Product Development and Robotics), five master’s programs (Design and Technology Futures, Vocational Teacher, Logistics, Product Development and Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management), and one doctoral program (Mechanical Engineering). The department consists of four research centers: the Research Center of Logistics and Transportation, the Materials Engineering Research Center, the Research Center of Smart Industry and Robotics, the Estonian Center of Engineering Pedagogy and in addition, the Laboratory of Mechanical Testing and Metrology.

The department is a promoter of the digitalisation of Estonian industry and a developer of competitiveness through good cooperation with universities / research institutions as well as companies, professional associations, technology development centers and the Innovation Center; an active partner of the technology platforms of the EU, a member of professional associations from Estonia as well from the EU and the Baltic states.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The goal of the position is to carry out research and development in the field of logistics as a whole, to organize it and apply for the necessary funding. The sub-objectives are the supervision and training of doctoral and postdoctoral fellows, and conducting in-service training in cooperation with companies, professional associations and research institutions; increasing the share of R&D and business contracts in the field of logistics; increasing the development and succession of the field by ensuring the professional training of logistics in accordance with the requirements of the professional standard at the bachelor’s (logistics manager – level 6; procurement manager – level 6; mobility engineer – level 6) and master’s level (supply chain manager – level 7; mobility engineer – level 7) and ensuring the training of current and future professionals and managers in accordance with the needs of the labour market.

Tasks:

  • successful application and management of R&D projects, development of the laboratory base;
  • leading the research team;
  • publication of R&D results, including in high-impact scientific journals, presentations at international conferences, and work as an expert in their field;
  • a balanced level of professional training, research and development in the fields of logistics, supply chain planning, and mobility management; responsibility for this level in their field;
  • R&D in the following expected directions: logistics, supply chain engineering, mobility management, with a sub-focus on process optimization in these areas;
  • supervision of doctoral, postdoctoral and postgraduate students;
  • conducting academic teaching and study development activities at the modern methodological and educational technological level at all levels of higher education in Estonian and English in the following curricula: Product Development and Robotics, Logistics, and Business;
  • development of cooperation with other research and development institutions and companies, including international cooperation.

Accompanying tasks: participation in the work of national and international professional decision-making bodies and commissions; participation in international editorial boards of scientific journals, scientific or organizing committees of conferences; participation in the development of study programs, including the work of program boards; popularization of their specialty and field of research; organization of professional in-service training.

The position is located in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.
