Duties and responsibilities

The job responsibilities are research and development work in accordance with the annex 4 of the Academic Staff Positions in Estonian University of Life Sciences (regulation No 1-28/7 of the Senate of EMÜ on 27.02.2020, amended by the regulation 1-28/8 of the Senate of EMÜ on 24.11.2022) in the field of plant based raw material processing, extraction and processing technologies, raw material valorisation and biochemistry. Focusing on the application of modern processing technologies in the valorisation of plant raw materials into food and non-food products.

 

Tasks

  • Initiation of research
  • Development and business cooperation projects
  • Participation in research, as well as execution of research and R&D project activities. The researcher fulfils various research and development activities of the Department of Horticulture at the Polli Horticultural Research Centre.
  • Contribution to sectoral business and international cooperation
  • Conducting training activities and supervising BSc-, MSc- and PhD-students
  • Planning and conducting experiments, including collection of empirical data and field information, analysis of statistical data and publication of results in specialized publications and international scientific journals

Skills/Qualifications
  • PhD degree in Chemistry, Agricultural sciences or Food Technology
  • previous relevant professional work experience in the field of utilization of bioresources for food and extraction technologies
  • publishing research results in international peer-reviewed scientific journals at the level required for research fellows at the Estonian University of Life Sciences
  • previous experience in research and laboratory work and technical skills in laboratory works
  • science-oriented, correctness, punctual, sense of responsibility and duty
  • good communication and cooperation skills for teamwork;
  • Analytical and initiative abilities
  • fluent in Estonian (C1) and English
  • compliance with the requirements set for the researcher position

Selection process

To participate in the competition, candidates are required to submit the following documents to the Personnel Department (Fr. R. Kreutzwaldi 1, 51006 Tartu, Estonia) or by e-mail to [email protected]  by April 15, 2024:

  • an application to the Rector;
  • a copy of the document certifying education and/or academic degree;
  • CV (curriculum vitae) and a structured list of scientific publications of recent ten years, in the Estonian Research Information System (ETIS) standard format (up to ten significant publications from the earlier period may be included at will); information on academic work and in-service training done within five recent years shall be enclosed with the CV;
  • the candidate for the position of Professor shall submit motivation letter reflecting the candidate’s vision about the development of this specific research field and related international cooperation in the university, and the measures that the candidate is going to take for increasing the level of research and teaching in the field (max 1500 words);
  • Researcher ID / ORCID / Google Scholar reference;
  • other relevant materials at the discretion of the applicant.

 

Application documents shall be submitted in Estonian or in English. The candidate for the position of a professor shall submit the application documents in Estonian and English. As an exception, application documents may be submitted in English only, if Estonian is not expected from the position holder. The documents shall be submitted in the written form, either on paper to the Personnel Department (Fr. R. Kreutzwaldi 1, 51006 Tartu, Estonia) or as a digitally signed document by e-mail to [email protected] .

In case the applicant has obtained higher education in a foreign country, the University will ask for an assessment from the academic recognition information centre (Estonian ENIC/NARIC Centre) on the conformity of the qualification of the applicant to the qualifications required in the position.

For candidates who apply for the position of Professor for the first time it is mandatory to present a public lecture (venia legendi), in case they have not done it earlier.
