Research Assistant: Educational commons

Ragnar Nurkse Department of Innovation and Governance of Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) is looking for a Research Assistant to work in the context of the project titled “SMOOTH ”. More specifically, the researcher will be part of the Estonian partner (TalTech) of the SMOOTH project, and will study the potential of the educational commons to reverse inequalities for youth. The Research Assistant is expected to have a deep engagement in the case studies via action research, participation in writing high-level academic publications and reports, etc., and in the broader advancement of the field of educational commons.

Qualifications:

A successful candidate should have:

  • MA degree in social sciences (preferably in educational studies) or in other areas with additional proof of knowledge in the project area and social science research skills;
  • PhD in social sciences is not necessary but will be appreciated;
  • A clear interest in the broader topic of education and commons, and a visible track record relevant to the tasks;
  • Excellent command of Estonian and English;
  • Capacity to work both as an independent researcher and as part of an international and interdisciplinary team;
  • Capacity and willingness to work on applied research.

  • A funded position up to 29 of February 2024 in one of the leading international research centers in Estonia;
  • Chance to do high-level research, and collaborate closely with ten European academic institutions which are partners in the Smooth project;
  • Opportunities for conference visits, research stays, and networking with universities and research centers in the fields of education, commons, feminism, and inclusion;
  • The gross salary – depending on previous experiences and qualifications – will be calculated for 0.5 workload, depending on the tasks that will be overtaken and will be up to 1100 EUR (gross, for 0.5 workload) and full health and social insurance. The position will be financed by the European Commission’s H2020 grant (grant no 101004491).
