Professor of Oncology

Duties and responsibilities

In addition to the job requirements laid down in the Job Descriptions document, we expect the following from a professor candidate:

  • Development of professional clinical, research and teaching activities in Estonia.
  • The teaching load is at least 154 academic hours per calendar year (in Estonian and English).
  • Supervising students and residents. 
  • Conducting continuing medical education for physicians.
  • High-level professional research and development, in order to strengthen international contacts and interdisciplinary cooperation at the University of Tartu and between Estonian hospitals.
  • Attending the meetings of the council of Institute of Clinical Medicine.

Required qualifications

PhD or an equivalent qualification.

Required experience
  • Professor must be highly qualified specialist in the field or in a closely related field.
  • Previous work experience as a professor, associate professor (kaasprofessor or dotsent in Estonian), research professor or senior research fellow or in an equivalent position in foreign countries.
  • Previous teaching experience at least at the first two levels of higher education, incl. effective supervision of master’s and doctoral students.
  • International-level research in the specialisation and ongoing active engagement in research.
  • Success in applying for research funding.
  • Experience in team or project management.

Required language skills

Estonian - very good in speaking and writing, English - adequate language skills for professional communication.

Workload: 1,00.

  • a letter of application to the Rector,
  • a curriculum vitae  in the established format,
  • a list of research publications (if necessary, enclosing copies or offprints of more important publications),
  • a copy of a document (including its annexes) which shows the candidate to hold the required qualification (with authorized translation into Estonian, English or Russian if the credential is not in Estonian, English, Russian, Finnish, Swedish, French, Italian, Ukrainian and Belarussian languages). A candidate can be required to submit the original or a certified copy of the document (including its annexes) showing the candidate to hold the required qualification. If the candidate has acquired the higher education in question abroad, he or she may be required to submit an assessment issued by the Academic Recognition Information Centre  (the Estonian ENIC/NARIC) of his or her qualification in respect of the qualification requirements for the position;
  • a statement not exceeding 1500 words of the aims to be achieved during the term in the position, and the outline of an action plan for achieving these;
  • other materials considered relevant by the candidate (a list of such materials must be included in the application or annexed to it).
