Principal Investigator: Educational commons

Ragnar Nurkse Department of Innovation and Governance of Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) is looking for a person to coordinate as Principal Investigator and work in the context of the project titled “SMOOTH” funded by the EU Horizon 2020 program. More specifically, the researcher will lead the Estonian partner (TalTech) of the SMOOTH project which aims to study the potential of the educational commons to reverse inequalities for youth. In cooperation with educational partners of TalTech, the position of the Principal Investigator is expected to lead to deep engagement in the case studies, project coordination, management, and contribution to project deliverables such as high-level academic publications, reports, etc., and in the broader advancement of the field of educational commons.

Qualifications:

A successful candidate should have:

  • PhD degree in social sciences (preferably in educational studies) or in other areas with additional proof of knowledge in the project area and social science research skills;
  • A clear interest in the broader topic of (formal and/or non-formal) education and commons and visible track record relevant to the tasks;
  • Excellent command of English and preferably a good command of Estonian language;
  • Capacity to work both as the Estonian team lead of the SMOOTH project, as part of an international and interdisciplinary team, and as an independent researcher;
  • Capacity and willingness to work on applied research;
  • Capacity and willingness to undertake organizational tasks relevant to the project.

  • A funded position up to 29 of February 2024 in one of the leading international research centers in Estonia;
  • Chance to do high-level research, and collaborate closely with ten European academic institutions which are partners in the Smooth project;
  • Opportunities for conference visits, research stays, and networking with universities and research centers in the fields of education, commons, feminism, and inclusion;
  • The gross salary – depending on previous experiences and qualifications – will be calculated for 0.8 workload depending on the tasks that will be agreed to be overtaken and will be up to 2000 EUR (gross, for 0.8 workload) and full health and social insurance. The position will be financed by the European Commission’s H2020 grant (grant no 101004491).
