We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious Postdoctoral Researcher candidate with background in plant biology, genomics, bioinformatics or related field to join our Computational Genomics group at the Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology of Tallinn University of Technology.
Postdoctoral Researcher will work on projects on plant genomics and transcriptomics, with both de novo and re-sequencing data. Particularly we are currently interested on studying the genomic basis of the formation of bioactive compounds in wild berries. There will also be opportunities to work with tree genomics in projects that are continuing the previous work in Silver Birch genomics (https://www.nature.com/articles/ng.3862 ) and hybrid Aspen transcriptomics (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0960982216305504 ). In our group the bioinformatics and high throughput sequencing methods are combined to study biological questions in non-model species both at the individual and population levels. More precisely, we are interested in understanding the mechanisms through which biosynthetic processes such as the production of anthocyanins and other flavonoids in berries and wood formation in trees are regulated. Postdoctoral Researcher can also develop his/her own research direction in this general field.
Successful candidate is expected to have background in at least one of these areas: plant biology, genomics, bioinformatics and computational biology. If the candidate has background in plant biology or related biosciences, strong bioinformatics background is not required. Instruction and training in bioinformatics can be provided during the project by the group. The ability and readiness to learn new is valued highly.
The initial appointment will be for a period of 2 years, with potential elongation depending on grant opportunities. Job is starting on 01.09.2019 the earliest or depending on the agreement. We offer a competitive gross salary package with 24 000 EUR/year.
For further information about the position, please contact Professor Olli-Pekka Smolander, email@example.com .
Applicants are requested to write a cover letter in which they describe their abilities and motivation, accompanied by a curriculum vitae and copy of educational (PhD) certificate. Please include the names of two references, including emails, phone numbers and their relationship to you.
Documents should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org .
