Description of the position:
The general aims of Tallinn University’s (TLU) School of Governance, Law and Society’s (SOGOLAS) study area of Law are related to securing a wide-ranging and internationally recognized teaching, development and research activity on the areas of international and humanitarian law in TLU, and to training professionals and leaders in public service and other roles utilizing international, comparative and humanitarian law competences in the public, private and third sectors. Since the beginning of contract the lecturer is expected to be ready to conduct courses and thesis supervision in International Law study area’s conceptual and methodological themes and courses in any of the BA and MA level programmes in international, humanitarian and comparative law studies of SOGOLAS. Lecturer position includes general courses and special courses in the specified fields above. Teaching takes place in English. The lecturer also participates in research and development activities.
Requirements for the candidate:
The candidate must fulfil the general requirements of the position of Lecturer III or Lecturer II as stipulated in the Employment Relations Rulesannex 6 of Tallinn University.
Professional experience requirements for the candidate:
The candidate has to have a PhD or have completed (verified by the institution going to award the degree) most of the studies in PhD field in law or an equivalent qualification. The candidate has to be ready to lecture in English. Preferred are candidates who have higher qualification or is ready to lecture also in Estonian.
The candidate is expected to have teaching experience at BA and MA level, recommended previous experience in learning material compilation.
* Required application documents: PhD certificate or conformation that most requirements are fulfilled and the degree will be awarded in the near future.
Language skills: English C1, Estonian: the candidate needs to acquire Estonian as a working language within 3 years in order to be able to participate in administrative tasks
Job responsibilities:
Employment Relations Rulesannex 6 and 1 of Tallinn University.
- Teaching courses at BA and MA level;
- Examining students in accordance with the curricula and study regulations;
- Supervising BA and MA theses on International, humanitarian and comparative law;
- Participating in the committees of both final defences and entrance exams of students;
- Conducting and publishing research;
- Distribution of qualitative information about politics and governance in the Estonian society through public performances and publications
- Participating in administrative and development activities of the School;
- Participating in academic area work meeting;
- Filling reports in agreed order about teaching, publications and scientific research;
- Keeping ETIS etc. work relegated information portals active and up to date.
The lecturer is obliged to be present in the campus of TLU on at least two days a week and be available for consultations for at least 2 hours a week.
Start of the employment contract: 01.01.2023. The start of the employment contract is flexible and will be negotiated with the winner of the competition.
Working load: 1,0
Load of teaching 34 - 44 EAP per year and load of supervising students at least 340 h per year.
The duties are approximately divided in (1) research (20 - 30 %), (2) teaching (60 -70 %) and (3) internal and external service (10%)
Salary: to be agreed, according to Tallinn University Remuneration Regulations.
