Offer Description

University of Tartu (UniTartu) is featured in many local and international top university rankings lists (e.g. QS , THE ). As of 2023, the University of Tartu belongs to the top 1% of the world's universities. The IMS Lab is conducting world-class research with a strong emphasis on real-world robotics demonstrators. We are seeking a capable researcher (postdoctoral researcher or an associate professor) to build and lead a research group in the field of robotics, e.g., machine vision for robotics, flexible manufacturing, and/or human-robot collaboration. The position is based at the University of Tartu Narva College, but the work will be carried out in close collaboration with the IMS Lab .

Duties and responsibilities

  • Conducting research in the field of robotics and human-robot collaboration.
  • Building and leading a research group, preparing and implementing research projects (in collaboration with other group leaders).
  • Supervising graduate and doctoral students.
  • Teaching at least one course per semester (2 hours per week) in the area of specialization.
  • Participation in the work of the decision-making bodies of the university is encouraged.

Required qualifications
PhD (or an equivalent qualification) in Robotics, Computer Science or related field.

Required experience

  • Outstanding programming skills (C++ preferred).
  • International peer-reviewed publications in the field of robotics, machine vision, control theory, and/or artificial intelligence, the volume of which is equivalent to at least two doctoral theses.
  • Success in applying for research funding and performing contracts related to research, development and creative activities (‘RDC activities’) in the past five years.
  • Experience in applying machine learning and artificial intelligence in technological systems and development experience with ROS2 and ROS are desirable.

Required language skills
Excellent command of the English language. The Estonian language is recommended but not required.

Additional information on remuneration
From 3800 euros (gross) per month depending on work experience and qualifications.
