Offer Description
The Department of Geology of Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) invites applications to fill in the assistant professor position in the field of Environmental Geology and Hydrogeology. The goal of the position is to ensure a high international level and sustainability of research and teaching in the fields of environmental geology, climate science and hydrogeology at TalTech.
Content of work
The content of work is a balanced amount of professional teaching, research and development activities in the fields of environmental geology and hydrogeology and paleoclimatology in accordance with the Regulation of Academic Career Management, including:
- research and development, presentation of the results of work, publishing, participation in research projects, application for and management of projects;
- development of cooperation with TalTech research groups, other research and development institutions, the state sector and companies;
- teaching and development activities at the state-of-the-art methodological and educational technology level, including the role of responsible teaching staff in subjects: LGB0140 Introduction to Hydrogeology; NGG0326 Applied Hydrogeology; LGM0503 Master Project Seminar; LGB0070 Earth Systems, Climate and Technologies - Research Project.
- supervising doctoral students, postgraduates and undergraduate students in conducting independent research;
- organisation of academic studies and development activities and responsibility for the level thereof in their specialty.
The assistant professor position is temporary up to eight years.

Specific Requirements
- PhD degree or equivalent qualification in the field of Geology, no more than 10 years have passed since defending the doctoral degree (in case of using parental leave, maternity leave or paternity leave or in compulsory military service or alternative service after having obtained a doctoral degree, the time limit shall be extended by the period of the leave or service).
- Previous experience in research and development and teaching in the field of Geology.
- Postdoctoral studies are completed.
- The level of scientific publications and number of citations is comparable to the ones of the same level professors in the same field at the reference universities of Tallinn University of Technology, h-index ≥6.
- Successful experience in funding applications.
- Participation in the activities of professional or research organizations and networks or professional work experience (incl. in business).
- Participation in public engagement activities.
- Advanced Estonian (required for conducting teaching, popularizing science, communicating with the state sector and ensuring continuity of professional terminology), advanced English.
