The ideal candidate will be an experienced University administrator, with a track record of delivering effective support and governance for teaching and learning committees and initiatives. They will offer evidence of a mature approach to risk and a willingness to step outside their comfort zone in search of creative solutions to problems, and to deliver change within a complex international environment.

Role purpose

To provide professional administrative support within the Office of the Senior Vice President (Teaching & Learning).

Job Description

  • Service committees associated with the Office of the SVP(T&L), including the Senate, the University Teaching & Learning Committee, and the Preparatory Year Committee (currently 20 meetings/year). This will involve drafting agendas, commissioning and drafting papers, minuting meetings and ensuring that actions agreed at meetings are followed through.
  • Maintain an online archive of committee papers.
  • Train and coach Faculty and central administrative staff in the protocols and skills of committee servicing.
  • Prepare documentation required for validation and re-validation by external partners.
  • Assist in validation and associated events, to include scheduling meetings, drafting agendas, preparing papers, attending and minuting events.
  • In collaboration with Faculties, prepare for annual and periodic programme review and similar QA&E-related events.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the post, as determined by the senior Vice President (Teaching & Learning).
  • Person Specification

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Substantive professional experience in a similar role within a higher education environment, and able to demonstrate a working knowledge of bodies such as QAA and OfS.
  • Substantive professional experience servicing university-level committees in a UK context.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, with a high degree of accuracy in grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Capable of developing collaborative, collegial professional relationships, displaying a high level of cultural sensitivity, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Experience of transnational education.
  • Strong computer literacy, including MSOffice, email and internet.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, able to prioritise and manage a wide and varied workload to tight deadlines.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and persuasion skills, along with the ability to deal politely and professionally with all colleagues and stakeholders.
