Reports to: Executive Director of Development
Purpose: The job holder serves as a major gifts officer within the advancement team, with a focus on the School of Business (SoB) funding priorities. The successful candidate will work with assigned individuals, SoB alumni, corporations and other key stakeholder prospects to cultivate and solicit major gifts in support of the school’s strategic plan and fundraising priorities. This position reports to the executive director of development, in alignment with the dean of the School of Business.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Lead the major gifts solicitation initiatives in alignment with the university and school of business strategic goals and funding priorities
- Work closely with the dean of the School of Business and the executive director of development to set the annual fund-raising goals and identify key prospects
- Serve as a member of the university advancement team and participate in prospect management and prospect strategy meetings
- Manage and maintain a portfolio of 50 major gift prospects with the aim of meeting and exceeding the agreed upon quarterly and annual goals
- Develop and implement effective fundraising plans capitalizing on best practices in identifying, cultivating and soliciting major donors
- Conduct a minimum of 100 annual prospect visits; travel may be required
- Document visits and successful gift solicitation outcomes, recommending follow up actions
- Assist in developing and maintaining the school shared funding priorities document to ensure fundraising strategies are aligned with the school’s goals
- Liaise with the School of Business administration, faculty, and advisory board members as relevant to identify fund raising strategies that meet the school’s strategic/funding priorities
- Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure
- Maintain stewardship contacts with donors as appropriate in coordination with the director of donor relations; adhere to the highest ethical standards; reflect a positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to the needs of the donors
- Direct research requests as needed to obtain information on key prospects and donors
- Assist in drafting proposals and present them to corporate and individual prospects as requested
- Set and evaluate progress against goals, develop plans and timelines, establish policies and procedures, and manage data to meet tight deadlines while maintaining good relations with stakeholders
- Perform additional task as assigned
Requirements:
Minimum Education Requirement:
- Bachelor degree; master degree is an asset
- Educational background in business, finance would be an asset
Experience:
- Minimum of ten to twelve years professional experience; five of which in fundraising
- Prior experience in business development, or donor relations an asset
- Major gift acquisition experience is preferred

- Proven track record of timely delivery on commitments
- Demonstrated ability in developing and managing productive relationships among a variety of stakeholders including high net-worth donors, across all levels and functional areas of an organization
- Strong work ethic and personal integrity
- Responsiveness to changing business needs and priorities
- Ability to balance strategic thinking and planning with tactical implementation
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and salesforce
- Highly collaborative and productive with the ability to turn strategy into action
- Demonstrates excellent judgment and effectiveness in problem-solving
