Senior Lab Engineer II, Architecture Department

Reports to: Technical Operations Manager

Purpose: The job holder is responsible for supervising the assigned labs, providing the necessary support for faculty, staff, undergraduate students, researchers, teaching assistants, graduate students and external customers including supervising the installation operation and maintenance of lab equipment, setting up and managing the equipment operation schedule, organizing work flow, ensuring lab safety and represent the department of architecture in University and school events.

Principal Accountabilities:  

  • Supervise and participate in the operations and maintenance of laser cutter machines, 3D printers, and wide format LaserJet and design jet plotter
  • Provide technical support in hardware and software for all assigned labs, faculty, staff, and students
  • Supervise the assigned labs in the architecture department.
  • Report a daily attendance status for his subordinates/himself
  • Ensure assigned labs’ readiness for any technical task within its predetermined mission
  • Supervise the operations and maintenance of all assigned labs’ assets (machines, equipment, software and infrastructure)
  • Maintain an updated inventory of all lab items (equipment, devices, tools, consumables)
  • Prepare the equipment operational guide for users
  • Support the faculty and teaching assistant members in the required courses
  • Assist the faculty members in the development of lab manuals and procedures
  • Assist in research, grants and engineering services, take research assignments and work on them.
  • Facilitate the projects and research endeavors of the undergraduate and graduate students, in their thesis as well as researchers and professors in their research activities and grants and engineering services
  • Keep awareness and report of new and required developments in his supervised equipment and machines
  • Keep continuous training of his subordinates making sure they all are competent using all the labs’ assets
  • Carry out varies manual tasks using manual tools
  • Ensure safe and clean work environment within the assigned labs and its premises in coordination with the AUC’s health and safety department
  • Apply the safety regulations and precautions, safety work practices and immediately report any safety violation incident and condition or potential hazards
  • Monitor first aid kits, fire-fighting equipment and safety gears in coordination with the AUC’s clinic and health and safety department
  • Perform any other related tasks as assigned

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirement

  • Bachelor of sciences degree or equivalent with required experience

Experience

  • At least five years of experience with prior three years of experience in the related field

Skills

  • Good background about the laser cutter, Computer numerical control (CNC), and 3D printers
  • Capable of communicating in English fluently oral and written
  • Time management and planning skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Good written and oral Arabic
  • Good troubleshooting and fault isolation skills
  • Equipment handling and maintenance hands on
  • Can perform under pressure and within a team
