SAP Basis System Administrator

Purpose: The SAP systems administrator is responsible for maintaining and supporting the mission critical SAP environment; this includes managing the SAP ERP software lifecycle and providing SAP basis support in 24x7 environments. He/she is also responsible for the day-to-day and long-term SAP basis support (administration, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting) and preform activities related to technical maintenance and administration of the SAP landscape as well as planning future system capacity.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Provide administration support to all SAP users
  • Performs SAP security administration; administers and monitors user application access and authorizations (add, change, delete security profiles, roles, info types and transactions)
  • Supports application developers, SAP functional team and SAP business process owners
  • Performs application of identified SAP notes and transports; troubleshoots and resolves transports errors
  • Installs SAP proprietary or another add-on software
  • Develops and maintains SAP backup and recovery strategy with UTI systems and backup administrators
  • Implement and maintain the multiple SAP instances that comprise the SAP environment (development, test, training and production)
  • Maintain the integrity of the SAP environment by managing the SAP Correction and Transport System (CTS) to ensure all configuration and development objects are promoted properly
  • Introduce technical changes into the environment using a structured approach that minimizes risk and achieves high reliability, availability and performance of each SAP instance
  • Design and implement an optimal SAP configuration to maximize system performance and availability
  • Install and configure all required SAP database servers and application servers
  • Manage SAP users, authorizations, and profiles
  • Distribute the online SAP user workload and monitor and manage the SAP background job workload
  • Maintain SAP performance by planning and executing SAP tuning strategies
  • Monitor all SAP systems (work processes, users, system logs, short dumps, locks, developer traces, system traces, disk space)
  • Administer the SAP database with database administrator (plan and perform database upgrades, apply database maintenance, design and maintain physical database layout, perform database reorganizations, design and implement backup and restore strategy, maintain database security, administer database performance, manage database storage, database problem determination and resolution.)
  • Perform SAP client administration (create client, copy client, delete client, export/import client) as required
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of SAP system upgrades
  • Apply and migrate SAP maintenance (hot packages and kernel upgrades) through all systems using a structured methodology
  • Utilizes solution manager to import, manage, and apply notes and patches as appropriate
  • Apply IT policies and follow IT procedures
  • Physical count of SAP licenses
  • Manages system level printers and peripherals
  • Provide status reports for projects to management
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s in computer science or equivalent experience

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years of experience with SAP
  • Certified SAP basis is an asset

Skills :

  • Should have extensive hands on experience of basis activities
  • Experience working with a Windows and MS SQL environment
  • Experience working with SAP support
  • Knowledge of middleware integration with SAP
  • Knowledge of clustering and high availability
  • Strong organizational, communication and prioritization skills
  • Strong customer service sensitivity to deadlines and impact to users
  • Must be a team player and excellent problem solver
